One of our esteemed clients in the Shipbuilding industry is currently seeking a Design and Engineering Director with 9+ years of experience alligning to the shipbuilding industry to be based in Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Overview

Lead the creation of documentation and the design for Naval Shipyard, in alignment with given time and quality standards.

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Align section goals, processes, and resource allocation with the organizational strategy while maintaining awareness of commercial and business objectives.
  • Ensure the accomplishment of organizational unit objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating organizational unit activities.
  • Define objectives, identifies, and evaluates trends and options, chooses a course of action, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Accomplish financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Support with strategic problems resolution and subjective decision making.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Supervise the entire work done by the team members and making sure it is completed on time without any delay.
  • Lead the team to complete tasks and meet goals through delegation of responsibilities and supervising business operations.
  • Set the vision and motivation of the team in order to achieve the sought objectives efficiently.
  • Set appropriate and achievable deadlines.
  • Track and report critical organizational unit performance results and escalate and negotiate business related issues to senior management.
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive technical documentation for all engineering activities.
  • Evaluate costs and human technical resources for development activities, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization.
  • Define strategies, methods, and rules for the assignment of third-party contracted activities, fostering a strategic and collaborative approach.
  • Provide crucial support to Concept Design and Project Management structures, facilitating the identification and definition of information essential for Development Design activities.
  • Guarantee optimal collaboration between Design and Production, ensuring a seamless connection to achieve project objectives.
  • Organize and manage resource usage across various activities, orders, and construction sites, optimizing efficiency.
  • Ensure strict compliance with design rules and lead the processing and management of changes, incorporating analysis of Non-Conformities (NC).
  • Manage the development of As-Built documentation and promote actions to enhance documentation through innovative design tools.
  • Ensure the optimal use of design tools and promote initiatives to improve tools and procedures, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Implement and oversee quality control measures for documentation produced,
    standardizing and optimizing the use of 3D models.
  • Collaborate with Shipyard production centers to effectively incorporate feedback information on changes, improvements, and corrections to the project.
  • Collaborate with the Program Management team in resolving technical and economic challenges of the contract, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Collaborate with the team responsible for Combat Systems for technical-constructive choices related to Combat System equipment and interfaces.
  • Ensure the quality and compliance with contractual requirements, safeguarding technical and professional know-how across existing contracts.
  • Provide technical support to Organizational Design Units and the Project Coordinator in resolving technical issues within your specialty.
  • Oversee the processing and management of activities related to the design process, ensuring the production of high-quality technical product documentation.
  • Supervise the design and document approval processes in compliance with the contractual objectives, the budget (engineering hours) and the planning times of the contract entrusted.
  • Guarantee efficient technical support in resolving technical issues within the specialized field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture or any other similar field.
  • 9+ years of experience in shipbuilding design or any other related field including 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Master's Degree in Naval Architecture or any other similar field.
