Consultant - Sustainability and Energy

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sustainability and Energy Consultant to join our dynamic team at Buro Happold. As a consultant, you will collaborate with clients to develop sustainable strategies, implement energy-efficient solutions, and drive positive change in the built environment. Your engineering expertise, combined with your passion for sustainability, will be instrumental in helping us deliver innovative projects that promote environmental stewardship and enhance our clients' performance.

What will I be doing Provide strategic advice and technical expertise to clients on sustainability and energy-related matters, including sustainable design, energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and low-carbon strategies. Conduct comprehensive sustainability assessments and audits, identifying opportunities for improvement and recommending tailored solutions to optimise environmental performance. Collaborate with project teams to integrate sustainable design principles throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptualisation and planning to construction and operation. Evaluate energy consumption, carbon emissions, and environmental impact, and propose strategies to optimise performance. Support the development of sustainability frameworks, rating systems, and certification processes, ensuring projects comply with relevant standards and regulations. Conduct research and analysis of emerging sustainability trends, technologies, and best practices, and apply findings to project designs and recommendations. Engage and collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to foster a shared vision of sustainability and promote awareness of sustainable design principles. Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and workshops to communicate project objectives, progress, and outcomes to clients and project stakeholders. Stay up-to-date with industry advancements, policy changes, and emerging sustainability requirements, providing guidance and thought leadership to internal teams and clients. What do I need to be successful Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or a related field. Proven experience as a Sustainability and Energy Consultant or a similar role, preferably within a consultancy or advisory firm. In-depth knowledge of sustainability principles, energy management, low-carbon technologies, and sustainable building design. Familiarity with sustainability rating systems and certification processes such as BREEAM, LEED, or WELL. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable recommendations. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. Proactive, innovative, and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
