This opportunity aims to provide substantive and technical support to the Government in integrating social and economic development into national policies across all sectors.

The main goal is to establish a solid foundation for effective, data-driven decision-making related to socio-economic progress in alignment with the Saudi Vision 2030.

The core concept behind this effort is for the Government to adopt a comprehensive approach to handling socio-economic advancement, moving away from traditional siloed policies.

Through collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), MEP's strategic goals will be outlined through five key outcomes as follows:

  • Supporting social and economic development;
  • Integrating sustainable development principles into national policy;
  • Developing national policies for resilient sector-oriented economics;
  • Formulating national strategies for regional development;
  • Enhancing capabilities in robust computer systems

As part of the Support to Umbrella Programme for Socio-Economic Development to MEP initiative, UNDP offers technical assistance to MEP.

Within this context, UNDP is looking for a macroeconomics specialist to oversee the maintenance and updates of the Financial Policies and Programming model, analyze data, and predict various macroeconomic indicators accurately.

Additionally, the role entails providing in-depth analyses of monetary policies and economic indicators while contributing to collaborative studies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance and updates of the Financial Policies and Programming model, analyze data, and forecast a range of macroeconomic indicators.
  • Provide high-quality and timely analyses for short-term and long-term projects, including assessing the impact of fiscal/monetary policies on economic variables, evaluating the external sector, and analyzing the real sector.
  • Contribute to joint studies, prepare presentation materials, and offer background analysis. Write sections for studies and policy notes for both internal and external audiences.
  • Offer feedback on research from fellow analysts, economists, and external partners. Review and provide input on research outputs as needed.
  • Although not responsible for managing a team, support quality assurance and mentor junior economists as part of cross-functional tasks.

Expected Deliverables and Outputs

Deliverable 1:

  • Facilitate the production of Financial Policies Program Modelling
  • Provide feedback on research, review and comment on research proofs

Duration: 21 working days

Approvals Required: Direct manager, Director of macroeconomic policy evaluation, collaboration with UNDP Programme Analyst

Deliverable 2:

  • Facilitate the production of Financial Policies Program Modelling
  • Assist in producing analyses, including evaluating the impact of fiscal/monetary policies, assessing the external sector, and diagnosing the real sector
