Private sector financial development is crucial for fostering successful and sustainable economies in low- and middle-income countries worldwide. A robust and effective financial market allocation ensures resources go where they are most productive, aiding job creation and stimulating economic growth. IFC's primary goal is to prioritize investments in the financial sector as they catalyze development across all sectors.

The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at IFC, which manages around 40% of the institution's business in terms of volume and capital at risk, is one of the three major industry groups. FIG is involved in diverse sub-sectors like Microfinance, SME, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, and others, offering investment and advisory services globally to IFC clients.

The FIG's Middle East, Central Asia, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MCT) Regional Industry Team is searching for an Investment Officer to be based in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The IO will identify and execute new investment transactions across the region and provide portfolio supervision, reporting to the IFC FIG Principal Investment Officer/Regional Business Lead for the GCC region.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of investment projects, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, managing technical and strategic project aspects
  • Oversee portfolio supervision of multiple projects, including restructurings, rescheduling, equity sales, etc.
  • Utilize financial expertise and personal influencing skills to lead negotiations and resolve impasses effectively
  • Develop innovative financial structures for varying transaction complexities
  • Anticipate market trends, employ sector/country knowledge, and collaborate with senior staff to build a robust investment pipeline
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, global/private businesses, banking partners, and multilateral organizations
  • Support FIG MCT strategy development and implementation
  • Work closely with internal units to address investment or client challenges
  • Evaluate opportunities to enhance social development impact in projects
  • Mentor junior staff on IO responsibilities

Selection Criteria

  • MBA or equivalent master's degree in finance or management
  • 8+ years of finance experience with a proven track record in sourcing, structuring, and closing investments
  • Strong financial and credit skills, demonstrated ability to structure various financial instruments
  • Deep understanding of industries, trends, and opportunities in the sub-region countries
  • Business development, client relationship skills, and focus on client needs
  • Direct interaction ability with potential clients, partners, and government officials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Arabic fluency is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills for diverse cultural interactions
  • Commitment to sustainable development and ethical standards
  • Willingness to travel extensively
