Job Overview:

McDermott has an immediate opening for a Principal Planner in Houston, TX.

The Planner will be responsible for preparing and maintaining Level 3 and Level 4 detailed Fabrication/Construction activity schedules, with the purpose of providing the Project Management Team with accurate progress, performance and schedule data to manage the project.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Able to develop and maintain logically linked level 3 and level 4 activity schedules, for marine scope installation projects in the Oil and Gas Industry (pipelines, subsea, platforms, HDD), according to precedence flow planning, using best practices.
  • Able to produce workforce histograms and progress and quantity curves in connection with the schedules.
  • Maintain and review sequence of fabrication, assembly, installation, and other operations for control of critical path and overall project durations.
  • Expedite operations that are delaying the schedule and analyze changes to the schedule to meet unforeseen conditions.
  • May need to prepare lists of required materials, tools, and equipment for input into Work Packages.
  • Responsible for the quality of the detailed project offshore schedules. Work closely with operations scheduling group to provide feedback to any changes to project schedules (e.g. changed scope of work, changed execution plan) for inclusion into the overall vessel schedule.
  • Prepares the first pass of the tender schedule, using scheduling norms from all key disciplines within the various departments and the project team allocated to the tender. List any assumptions / qualifications that will need to be included into either technical or commercial qualifications. Maintain record/file of input received for inclusion into the schedule (e.g. transit distances, welding cycles) as backup for duration checks.
  • Participate in all tender kickoff meetings.
  • Participate in tender reviews.
  • Review technical and commercial qualifications, ensuring all assumptions/qualifications related to the schedule/execution plan are included.
  • Participates in Decisionmaking within Project teams and Operations Department
  • Mentor and assist junior planners.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 10+ years of Oil and Gas Industry experience with focus on Offshore and Marine Operations scope of work planning.
  • Must have solid commands of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be able to use advanced features in Excel (curves, histograms, dynamic tables, formulas, etc.).
  • Commands of the Spanish language will be desirable, but not required.
