Role Overview

ES music teacher is responsible for teaching music education to students and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. ES music teacher Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening and performs other duties directly related to this job description. ES music teacher works in collaborative teams and is responsible for providing an engaging, inquiry-based program to scholars. Our teachers create a safe, structured, and joyful learning community that fosters excellence, collaboration, and innovation.

Job Responsibilities

Planning and Preparation for Learning

· Teaches general music to ECC-8th grade including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.

· Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.

· Provides opportunities for music ensembles including choir & musicals.

· Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community

· Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.

· Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.

· Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.

· Evaluates each student's musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.

· Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.

Cooperation with Head of School and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs

· Plan lessons and units by following the AISJ curriculum framework in collaboration with the other grade level teachers

· Demonstrates planning with consideration of differentiation needs, scholar engagement, and anticipates scholars' misconceptions and confusions

Classroom Management

· Is direct, specific, consistent, and tenacious in communicating and enforcing very high expectations.

· Shows warmth, caring, respect, and fairness for all scholars and builds strong relationships.

Successfully inculcates class routines up front so that scholars maintain them throughout the year.

Gets all scholars to be self-disciplined, take responsibility for their actions, and have a strong sense of efficacy

Delivery of Instruction

Promotes scholar-centered learning through highly effective strategies, materials, and groupings to involve and motivate all scholarsPromotes inquiry-based and concept-based learningSupports scholars with understanding of their strengths and opportunities for development, setting their goals, and action planningPromotes agency among scholars including voice, choice, and ownershipSuccessfully reaches all scholars by skillfully differentiating and scaffoldingProfessional ResponsibilitiesDesigns each lesson with clear, measurable goals closely aligned with standards and unit outcomes.Collaborates with colleagues to plan units, share teaching ideas, and look at scholar work.Seeks out effective teaching ideas from colleagues, workshops, and other sources and implements them wellMonitoring Assessment & Follow-upFrequently checks for understanding , adjusting teaching, re-teaching and following-up from the dataAnalyzes and reflects on collected data to continuously ensure lesson & unit plans are designed to meet scholar needsGives scholars a well constructed diagnostic assessment up front, and uses the information to fine-tune instruction.Has scholars set ambitious goals, continuously self-assess, give feedback, and take responsibility for improving performance.Help scholars develop as self-assessors and self-adjustersFamily and Community OutreachCommunicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students. Shows parents a genuine interest and belief in each child's ability to reach standards.Gives parents clear expectations for scholar learning and behavior for the year.Promptly informs parents of behavior and learning problems, and also updates parents on good news.Updates parents on the unfolding curriculum and suggests ways to support learning at home.
