Systems Engineering Manager, Grocery Management Technology

The Challenge: Amazon in partnership with Whole Foods is looking for passionate and innovative Systems Engineering Manager that have a heart for Nourishing People and the Planet. This team which works for Amazon and provides services to Whole Foods Market, will be closely aligned with our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) tackling some of our most complex projects that will deliver innovative technical advancements for the retail grocery industry.

The Role: Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. As a Systems Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in design, development, test, and deployment of a range of large-scale back-end platform services that are fundamental to our product. You should have an established background in designing and building highly scalable systems, excellent project management skills, excellent communication skills, and the motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. You will be helping to hire and build your team, systems, and establishing development processes.

Your team will work with a variety of core languages and technologies such as Java, ASP.NET, C/C++, C#, Python, Perl, Windows, Linux, and AWS services. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and will have the opportunity to redefine an industry while working with different teams across Amazon and Whole Foods Market. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 7+ years working within engineering teams building successful production software systems
  2. 4+ years directly managing technical team members
  3. 3+ years architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  4. Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
  5. Strong experience with agile software development lifecycle, including continuous deployment automation, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, testing, and operations following CI/CD best practices
  6. Translation of complex functional and technical requirements into detailed project plans and schedules; manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team by defining, implementing and maintaining a coherent, progressive development strategy for our product line.
  7. Advanced proficiency in one or more high-level programming language: Java, ASP.NET, C/C++, C#, Python, or Perl
  8. Experience with system analysis and troubleshooting in large-scale Windows or Linux environment
  9. Strong networking fundamentals including DNS, DHCP, SSH, HTTP, TCP/IP protocols, and hands-on experience with network infrastructure components such as load balancers, switches, and routers
  10. Proven track record of driving cross-team initiatives with strong problem-solving abilities and dedication to delivering high-quality, customer-focused solutions
  11. Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem-solving skills and excellent communication with peers and non-technical stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Strong object-oriented design and implementation skills, with expertise in Windows/Microsoft technologies and Unix/Linux platforms
  2. Strong understanding of modern database technology, including AWS database products such as RDS
  3. Advanced understanding of DNS, DHCP, SSH, HTTP, TCP/IP and other common network protocols
  4. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
  5. Solid knowledge of CS fundamentals - object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, problem solving and complexity analysis.
  6. Proven track record delivering large, cross-functional projects across multiple teams and locations
  7. Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do what's necessary to drive your projects to completion
  8. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  9. Ability to work with multiple technical teams across Amazon in different locations.
  10. Creative, flexible and self-motivated.
