Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and coordination of activities for the Operations Department.
  • Take the day-to-day operational decisions to ensure that the Department achieves its results and delivers its mandate.
  • Lead and supervise the processing and settlement of all transactions by the various business units based on the relevant operating policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Lead the management of relationships with banks and custodians.
  • Supervise, in coordination with the Treasury Department, cash management activities, including cash, call, current, and other accounts.
  • Ensure that periodic reports are accurate and of high quality.
  • Lead the development and implementation of objectives, planning processes, budgets, and operational KPIs for the department.
  • Create and implement actionable short- to medium-term operational plans and budgets with KPIs linked to the mandate of the Operations Department.
  • Coordinate the department's activities so that it effectively utilizes its resources, manages its priorities, and is able to be both responsive and proactive to meet the expectations of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage, monitor and evaluate the Department's ongoing performance and quality of its outputs and services, identifying and initiating actions for improvement and innovation.
  • Oversee the Information Technology (e.g., T24) enhancements as they relate to the Department.
  • Contribute to innovation and the institutionalization of new initiatives in the Department.
  • Monitor and review short-term liquidity and cash management activities including forex requirements.
  • Oversee maturity profiles, bank account positions/statements on a regular basis and oversee the funds movements.
  • Monitor and review all the liquidity deals processed on a daily basis to ensure compliance with all liquidity requirements.
  • Ensure efficient and error-free processing of all Treasury and corporate finance and investments (CFI) transactions with strict compliance to policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and review all transactions and ensure necessary procedures to minimize operational risks.
  • Supervise the development of future cash movement plans and ensure availability of the necessary liquidity required.
  • Monitor and review the processing and settlement of deal tickets for Treasury Department's transactions as well as payment and settlement activities for CFI transactions and ensure accuracy of all execution details and timeliness of completion.
  • Supervise follow-up activities on outstanding items and ensure necessary steps are taken in case of delay/failure of any sort.
  • Monitor and review daily placement positions, FX positions, and cash balance positions on a regular basis.
  • Develop overall systems and procedures for payments through establishing and enhancing the payment channels with other banks.
  • Supervise the management of the payments system for APICORP.
  • Lead the coordination with the Financial Control Department (FCD) to manage disbursements and replenishment needs and follow-up APICORP payment arrangements and understandings with financial institutions.
  • Oversee Swift Administration & Coordination activities.
  • Lead the system development & enhancements for Treasury operations activities.
  • Provide motivational and inspirational leadership for the department and communicate direct reports clearly the mandate of the department, its objectives, and performance expectations.
  • Manage the performance and resources of the department through delegation of responsibility, setting stretch objectives, and providing regular feedback on results, promptly addressing areas of underperformance.
  • Monitor and assess the skills and capabilities of the department, and determine the actions needed to increase its impact.
  • Provide clear directions, prioritize tasks, and monitor the workflow.
  • Plan, manage, and review individual staff performance and provide regular feedback, development, and coaching, as well as take prompt and appropriate action where necessary.

Necessary Knowledge and Experience:

  • 15+ years in back-office operations in the banking sector
  • 5+ years of managerial/supervisory experience
  • Experience in international accounting standards and IT systems.
  • Master's degree in accounting/finance/economics/business administration or related discipline.
  • Certified in CA, ACCA, or CPA.
