THE LINE has ambitious objectives and requirements for sustainability (inclusive of environmental aspects), owned and managed by THE LINE Proponent, which aim to create a new way of living, to address some of the major challenges facing the planet.

During Stage 3A and 3B, THE LINE Projects Sustainability team are responsible for working closely with THE LINE Proponent and other relevant parties across THE LINE and NEOM to ensure implementation of the sustainability objectives and requirements into the procurement and management of the City Infrastructure Engineer and Early Works designers, including the Marine Consultant and the Industrialized Construction Consultant. In addition, during Stage 3A and 3B, THE LINE Projects Sustainability team support with the procurement (but not management) of the Neighbourhood Engineer and the Anchor Asset Engineer.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure infrastructure assets design in compliance with NEOM frameworks, policies, and procedures and applicable laws, regulations, sustainability framework, green rating systems and industry standards.
  2. Oversee the development and implementation of compliance programs and processes.
  3. Ensure sustainability requirements are integrated into all infrastructure design documents, such as technical specifications, drawings and design criteria of THE LINE assets.
  4. Provide expert advice on decarbonization strategies, aligning with carbon budgets and Net Zero goals and review LCA reports.
  5. Provide expert advice on Energy and Water reduction.
  6. Promote and encourage low-carbon solutions and ensure carbon reporting is recorded and communicated during the design stage.
  7. Prepare compliance reports and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  8. Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards that impact compliance.
  9. Assess potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate compliance risks.
  10. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as regulatory authorities, auditors, and business partners.
  11. Develop a framework for tracking and reporting key sustainability metrics, including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and carbon emissions reduction.
  12. Ensure that the sustainability design outcomes align with the United Nations SDGs and IFC PS, contributing to the NEOM's overall sustainability goals.
  13. Provide leadership and guidance to the sustainability team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  14. Support the effective and efficient implementation of THE LINE Proponent (and their design consultants) defined sustainability objectives and requirements into the procurement and management of relevant designers.
  15. Manage and report design consultant progress against Key Performance Indicators and targets.
  16. Additional responsibilities as assigned by Head of Sustainability Performance Excellence.

Requirements:

  1. Degree in Engineering, preferably mechanical engineering.
  2. Master's degree in sustainability, environmental science, or a similar discipline is preferred.
  3. Demonstrable experience in embedding sustainability principles into Master planning/infrastructure design such as Energy and water reduction.
  4. Demonstrable experience providing input on a complex, multi-disciplinary project.
  5. Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in engineering, with a focus on sustainability and green building practices.
  6. Proven track record of successfully completing LEED and/or Envision projects, demonstrating a deep understanding of sustainable design and construction principles.
  7. Prior experience and up-to-date knowledge in carbon accounting/reporting, decarbonisation and whole life carbon.
  8. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external partners at all levels of the organization.
  9. Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically, analyze data, and identify opportunities for sustainability integration and improvement.
  10. Good problem-solving skills and ability to be adaptable, work flexibly, follow guidance, meet deadlines and produce work requiring minimal re-work.
  11. Awareness of how their area of expertise fits in the context of the team and project objectives.
