The Amazon Fulfillment Technologies team in Hyderabad is looking for a System Development Manager to manage all aspects of mission-critical services. Our team of engineers innovate, automate, drive process and service improvements and manage highly available systems that power Amazon fulfillment network worldwide.

A successful candidate for this role will have an established background in managing support organization, has a strong customer focus, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. This manager will collaborate with business teams, program/project management teams, and software engineering teams to help articulate amazon fulfillment strategy to achieve Operational Excellence and scale our business. The role also involves driving smaller scope development projects and building custom tools.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of ~8 highly talented Dev Ops & Sys Dev engineers responsible for managing all aspects of mission-critical systems.
  2. Lead and manage the team that drives organizational standards for operational excellence and resiliency.
  3. Establish strong relationships with internal partners and peer stakeholders to understand and meet their needs while operating existing systems at a high quality.
  4. Participate in incident management to resolve outages and communicate with a global audience and participate in calls resolving outage.
  5. Develop and maintain a culture of innovation and operational efficiency in the team.
  6. Manage the design and development of new software solutions supporting our internal teams, including code reviews, testing, deployment and post-launch monitoring.
  7. Hiring, growing and retaining engineering team keeping up with the high Amazon bar. This leader will be responsible for continuing to build an extremely high caliber team.
  8. A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in developing and operating platforms and services, developing and hiring extraordinary talent, have strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONSPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Expertise in operational excellence, security compliance, and distributed systems' resiliency.
  2. Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  3. Experience developing in Python for similar modern programming language, such as C++, Java, C#, or Ruby.
  4. Expertise in operations of highly available and scalable internet systems with large customer base.
  5. Experience managing staff and meetings across multiple sites and time zones.
  6. Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written, including long-form business writing on complex topics.
  7. Ability to drive effective teamwork, collaboration and commitment.
  8. Excellent analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  9. Experience developing and improving operational documentation, procedures and workflows.
  10. Ability to credibly coordinate between technical teams, peers and business stakeholders.
  11. Ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies.
  12. Experience managing on-call support coverage, escalation and critical issue management.
  13. Experience in contributing to the definition and implementation of automation opportunities within an operations environment.
  14. Experience in root cause analysis and error correction, identifying changes to procedures and systems to implement long term fixes and avoid repeating issues.
