The Manager, HSE Risk & Intelligence is responsible for leading HSE risk management, investigations, and intelligence functions within SAL. This role ensures identification, assessment, and mitigation of health, safety, and environmental risks, supporting data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement. The position also oversees incident investigations, predictive risk analysis, and compliance with regulatory and industry standards such as GACARs, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ICAO, IATA, and NCOSH.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide HSE risk management frameworks and methodologies.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of HSE risks through proactive intelligence gathering and data analytics.
  • Oversee trend analysis, risk forecasting, and predictive safety models to enhance decision-making.

Incident Investigations & Root Cause Analysis

  • Lead and oversee forensic investigations into HSE incidents, near misses, and non-conformities.
  • Ensure compliance with root cause analysis methodologies and drive corrective/preventive actions.
  • Enhance and manage the HSE reporting system to ensure seamless, structured, and confidential reporting of safety incidents.
  • Promote a Just Culture by strengthening anonymous and open reporting mechanisms to encourage employee participation.
  • Oversee the development of HSE intelligence dashboards, predictive models, and real-time analytics tools.
  • Leverage big data analytics & machine learning techniques to assess safety performance indicators (SPIs) and operational risks.
  • Integrate leading and lagging indicators into corporate risk assessments, ensuring intelligence-driven HSE strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with GACAR, ICAO, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, IATA, and NCOSH regulations (among others) related to risk and investigations.
  • Act as the key liaison for regulatory bodies, law enforcement, and industry safety organizations.
  • Develop audit-ready reporting systems to support compliance assurance.

Training, Awareness & Continuous Improvement

  • Design and implement HSE risk management, investigative, and intelligence training program, in collaboration with the Safety Promotion Specialist.
  • Ensure employees and stakeholders receive awareness programs on risk prevention and intelligence utilization.
  • Lead case study reviews and lessons learned workshops, embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide senior-level briefings and operational-level briefings on HSE risk intelligence, key risk indicators (KRIs), and safety performance indicators (SPIs).
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the enhancement and management of the HSE reporting culture, ensuring accessibility, anonymity, and reliability in incident and hazard reporting systems.
  • Monitor reporting trends and analyse barriers to reporting, implementing strategies to increase employee engagement in proactive hazard identification.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications in ISO 45001, ISO 14001, NEBOSH, ICAO Safety Management Systems (SMS), or OSHA preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in data analytics, incident investigation software, and risk assessment platforms.
  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience in HSE risk management, investigations, and safety intelligence.
  • Proven expertise in incident investigations, predictive analytics, and regulatory compliance.
