General Surgeon

Performs preventative therapy related to dental hygiene upon the periodontist's directions. Performs scaling, root planning, and polishing of teeth. Provides patient education on good oral hygiene practice.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Prepares dental operatory. Sets up for each procedure using aseptic techniques. Maintains a high level of infection control before, during, and after procedures. Prevents cross infection and contamination. Maintains enough supplies in the clinic on a daily and monthly basis.
2. Reviews medical records for health status. Ensures patients requiring pre-med and/or lab work are properly prepared. Ensures patients' health history is updated annually.
3. Evaluates patient dentition in a preliminary screening. Examines gingival tissues. Performs oral cancer screening.
4. Documents clinical findings, plaque scores, dental histories, treatment rendered, and conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by Dentist.
5. Instructs patients on proper dental care and diet for good oral health.
6. Prepares and administers topical anaesthetic gel and local anaesthetic injections necessary for hygiene treatment.
7. Performs supra and sub gingival scaling including comprehensive root debridement.
8. Prepares and administers topical antibiotic agents in deep periodontal pockets after root planning as prescribed by periodontist.
9. Applies topical fluoride and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay. Applies sealants to teeth for pit and fissure correction and/or prevention.
10. Enters clinical and statistical data into the computer as required.
11. Rotation to KFNCCC & KACO & LD dental clinic is mandatory, if needed.
12. Participates in Hospital wide performance improvement activities.
13. Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.
14. Participates in self and others' education, training, and development, as applicable.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene is required.

Experience Required

• Grade 08:
• Two (2) years of related experience with Bachelor's is required.
• Grade 09:
• Four (4) years as Dental Hygienist at KFSH & RC.
• Average annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4) years.
• Fifty (50) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME].

Other Requirements (Certificates)

• Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
