Site Director Minimum Requirements:
2 years of college with at least 18 credits in a field related to children (education, recreation, phys ed, child development, etc.).

PREFERRED: Associates degree or higher in related field. Experience working with children. 1 year in a supervisory role. A fun, energetic, team player type of attitude who is creative and loves children.

Child Care Aide Minimum Requirement:
18 years of age or older. Experience working with kids and a fun, energetic, team player attitude, who is creative and loves children.

Must be available: 2 pm until 6 pm.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Conducts parent conferences, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers.
  6. Maintains program site and equipment.
  7. Maintains required program records.
  8. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  9. Promotes the physical, intellectual, social, cultural, and emotional well-being of the children.
  10. Works with the staff team to plan and implement activities.
  11. Provides direct leadership to the assigned group(s) and maintains constant visual contact with all assigned children.
  12. Participates in daily activities and aids the children in completing tasks, including land and water-based activities. Assists in assessing child abilities and developmental stages.
  13. Builds enthusiasm for activities and programs.
  14. Completes required documentation regarding attendance, health and wellness, sign-in and sign-out, and other items as assigned. Notifies parents if children are not in attendance.
  15. Keeps the program areas neat and organized. Follows all safety procedures.
  16. Follows all regulating agency and YMCA child care policies, regulations, and procedures.
  17. Maintains friendly, positive, and professional relationships with children, parents, school & day care partners, and other YMCA staff. Projects a positive image of the YMCA and the Day Care program.
  18. Follows work site requirements regarding punctuality, appropriate dress, staff meeting attendance, etc.
  19. Carries out tasks as assigned by the Site or Program Director.
  20. Assists in program and YMCA recruitment and special events.
  21. Works YMCA Camp Days and alternate program locations as scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law. School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations as required.
  2. At least 18 years of age to work in Prime Time and Child Watch.
  3. High School diploma or GED preferred. Additional educational requirements may be necessary per the appropriate regulating agency.
  4. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date.
  5. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  6. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  7. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
Vision, hearing, speech, and movement abilities in order to provide safe supervision of children at all times.
