Job Title: AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) Specialist Overview: A Waste Management AVL Specialist will be responsible for optimizing waste collection routes, enhancing fleet efficiency, and improving operational effectiveness through the implementation and management of Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems. The role will involve utilizing AVL technology to track and monitor waste collection vehicles, analyze data, and make informed decisions to streamline operations and reduce costs. Key Responsibilities: Implementation of AVL Systems: Lead the implementation and configuration of AVL systems for waste collection vehicles, including hardware installation, software setup, and integration with existing fleet management systems. Route Optimization: Utilize AVL data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to analyze waste collection routes, identify inefficiencies, and optimize route schedules to minimize fuel consumption, vehicle wear and tear, and overall operational costs. Real-time Monitoring: Monitor waste collection vehicles in real-time using AVL technology to track vehicle locations, monitor route progress, and ensure adherence to schedule. Respond promptly to any deviations or issues to maintain operational efficiency. Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze AVL data to generate reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet performance, route efficiency, and operational metrics. Use insights from data analysis to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for cost savings. Maintenance and Support: Provide technical support for AVL systems, troubleshoot hardware or software issues, and coordinate with vendors or internal IT teams for system maintenance, upgrades, and repairs as needed. Training and Education: Train waste management staff on the use of AVL systems and best practices for route optimization. Provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure proper utilization of AVL technology and adherence to established procedures. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to waste collection operations, vehicle tracking, and data privacy and security. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related field. Previous experience in AVL technology, fleet management, GIS analysis, or waste management preferred. Proficiency in AVL software platforms Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and visualize data effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross functional teams and external vendors. Knowledge of waste management regulations and industry practices is a plus. Work Environment: The position may involve working in an office environment, as well as occasional field visits to waste collection sites and vehicle depots. Flexibility to work outside regular business hours may be required to monitor vehicle operations in real-time or respond to emergencies
