As an Arborist, your role is to assess, maintain, and care for trees and woody plants. You will be responsible for diagnosing tree health issues, implementing appropriate treatments, and ensuring the safety and aesthetic value of trees in various settings, such as parks, residential areas, and urban landscapes. Your responsibilities will include tree inspections, pruning, tree risk assessments, and providing expert advice on tree care and management.
**Responsibilities**
- Tree Inspections and Assessments: Conduct thorough inspections of trees to assess their health, structure, and overall condition. Identify signs of diseases, pests, decay, or other issues that may affect tree health or pose safety risks. Use specialized tools and equipment to measure tree diameter, assess root health, and evaluate structural stability.
- Tree Health and Disease Management: Diagnose and treat tree diseases, insect infestations, and nutrient deficiencies. Develop and implement treatment plans, such as tree injections, fertilization, and pest control measures, to mitigate tree health issues and promote tree vitality. Stay updated on the latest research and best practices in tree health management.
- Tree Risk Assessments: Conduct tree risk assessments to evaluate potential hazards posed by trees, such as weak branches, decayed trunks, or root instability. Assess the likelihood and severity of tree failure and provide recommendations for risk mitigation strategies, such as tree bracing, cabling, or removal if necessary.
- Tree Planting and Transplanting: Assist in tree selection, planting, and transplanting activities. Consider factors such as soil conditions, space availability, species suitability, and environmental considerations when determining the appropriate tree planting or relocation techniques.
- Arboricultural Reports and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports documenting tree assessments, recommendations, and work performed. Maintain accurate records of tree maintenance activities, treatments applied, and inspections conducted. Provide clear and concise information to clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Tree Preservation and Conservation: Provide guidance and expertise on tree preservation and conservation efforts. Collaborate with construction or development teams to develop tree protection plans during construction activities. Advocate for tree preservation and educate the public on the value and importance of trees in the environment.
- Client Engagement and Consultation: Communicate with clients, property owners, and community members to provide expert advice on tree care and management. Assess client needs, explain findings, and offer recommendations for tree maintenance and improvement. Build and maintain positive relationships with clients through excellent customer service.
- Equipment Maintenance and Safety: Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of arboricultural equipment, such as chainsaws, tree climbing gear, and aerial lifts. Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards to minimize risks and accidents during tree work.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on industry advancements, arboricultural practices, and safety guidelines. Participate in training programs, workshops, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills in tree care and management.
- Other tasks assigned by HgP.
**Requirements**:
- Preferred Secret Clearance but not required.
- Degree or certification in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an Arborist, preferably in a professional setting
- Strong knowledge of tree species, tree biology, and arboricultural practices.
- Familiarity with tree health diagnostics, pest management, and disease treatment methods.
- Proficiency in tree climbing techniques and working at heights.
- Ability to operate and maintain arboricultural equipment safely.
- Excellent understanding of safety regulations and best practices in tree care.
- Strong observational and analytical skills to assess tree health and structural stability.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and team members.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks associated with tree care.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various work sites.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy cabling equipment and work in confined spaces.
