Leads the department inaccordance with the Hospital’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives.Responsible for the overall administrative activitiesof the department inaddition to the clinical duties as a Consultant.

**Essential Responsibilities and Duties**:
Clinical Responsibilities

1.Provides general supervision over the professional care in theDepartment of Medicine.

2.Ensures the quality of medical diagnosis and care provided tooutpatients of the department.

3.Directs the Organization of the staff so as to give optimum careto all patients accepted to the department in accordance with policies andprocedures of the Hospital.

4.Provides required patient care and management in the area ofMedicine in accordance with policies and procedures of the Hospital.

5.Assumes responsibility for patients under his care. Liaises withvarious service departments and medical specializations to provide appropriateand timely medical care, in accordance with the standards of medical care laiddown by of the Hospital.

6.Complies with all Hospital standards and policies pertaining toacceptance, eligibility, admission, processes, consultation, daily patientcare, outpatient practices and patient discharge as applicable.

7.Assess patients’ diseases or conditions to determine appropriatetherapeutic modalities/procedures. Initiates investigations and ensuresfindings are recorded.

8.Ensures appropriate patient preparation for procedures/surgeryand performs procedures/surgery as indicated in the signed clinical privilegeform.

9.Follows-up on investigation results for outpatients and modifiestreatment accordingly as applicable.

10.Attends specialty clinics, outpatient clinics, day surgicalunits, day medical units, special procedures treatment areas and share on-callschedule as per requirements.

11.Performs any other clinical responsibilities related tospecialty, as assigned.

Academic Responsibilities_**

1.Promotes Postgraduate Training Programs, Continuing MedicalEducation Activities, International Symposia and other required educational andtraining courses and ensures evaluation and reporting of such activities.

2.Leads and promotes educational activities for Residents, Fellows,Assistant Consultants, Junior Staff and other members of the department.

3.Introduces and implements new advances and techniques for complexprocedures in the area of specialization.

4.Hosts National and International Medical Conferences inKFSH&RC and participates in similar conferences abroad as assigned.

Research Responsibilities_**

1. Leads and promotesclinical basic and translational research and publication of papers inaccordance with Research and Advisory Council Policy in order to advanceknowledge, improve the quality of post graduate education and contribute to thenational and international recognition of the Hospital.

**Education**:
Graduation from a medical school in good standing, completion of required period of postgraduate training in a specialty and/or subspecialty, with Saudi/American Board or Canadian/UK certification, or equivalent as outlined by the Medical Staff Credentialing Committee.

**Experience Required**:
Ten (10) years of clinical experience in a subspecialty including four (4) years in Admin Capacity, plus post-training experience is required.
