**Job Summary**:
Responsible for the chemical testing Laboratory to ensure that all lab activities to test raw materials, intermediate products and finished products for quality are carried out in a timely and efficient manner and includes adherence to health, safety and environmental objectives and policies. Ensure laboratory is properly staffed with qualified personnel to handle all required day-to-day laboratory functions and department objectives.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Supervise the operating and maintenance activities in the Laboratory for all requested quality tests including the testing of all raw materials, intermediates and finished products. Plan, organize and control the resources needed to deliver the department’s objectives.
- Ensures approved analytical procedures are in place for all routine testing.
- Responsible for the timely submission of tests results to Plant Managers, Process and Operations Engineers to ensure they are properly informed of test results.
- Maintain quality inventory control procedures are in place to ensure acceptable supply of Laboratory equipment and consumables materials are available for Laboratory operations at all time.
- Ensure timely approval of purchase orders to replenish stocks of materials and equipment necessary for uninterrupted operations of the Laboratory.
- Ensure that the Laboratory is properly staffed with qualified personnel to carry out all required Laboratory tests and meet the department objectives.
- Develop plans and organize training for all Laboratory staff to ensure they are fully trained to comply with company and international standards of QC testing and upgraded and qualified to handle state-of-the-art Laboratory equipment.
- Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility
- Responsibilities also include recruiting, hiring and training personnel and facility/physical mine up-keep and capital improvements.
- Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment. Supports the Laboratory’s ISO 17025:2017 certification which includes completing test method audits and quality action notifications.
**Qualifications & Experience**:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or Geochemistry. Minimum 10 years of experience in an industrial chemical or petrochemical laboratory including at least 5 years in a supervisory role, such as: Petroleum, Chemical, Fertilizer/Mining or other Industrial Manufacturing organizations. Experience in mineral processing is an asset.
**Skills**:
- Management skills, AQ/QC, analytical techniques, statistical methodology and forecasting skills
- Excellent foundation in Phosphate Quality Control laboratory procedures and practices, a working knowledge of phosphate mining and processing technology and sound problem-solving abilities in a diverse, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Experienced with appropriate analytical techniques and technologies for method development, procedure standardization and equipment calibration.
- Proven leadership, team building and advanced coaching skills.
- Proven ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and listening ability.
- Strong work ethic and be able to adhere to company, policies, and standard business etiquette.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills in English required,
- Self-starter with mínimal supervision for routine activities.
- Extensive computer skills in using Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) plus other software pertinent to the work performed would be advantageous.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and foster a cooperative team environment.
- Bi-lingual or multi-lingual is a plus
- International work experience in remote camp environment.
