Emergency Room Consultant

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
3.1 Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and
Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department/division.
3.2 Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom
he/she is responsible.
3.3 Core Clinical Care:
3.3.1 Carries out full range of clinical duties as assigned by the director of
department/head of division in accordance with individually approved
clinical privileges.
3.3.2 Clinical management and direction of the Emergency Department, in
conjunction with other Consultant in different specialties.
3.3.3 Responsibility for the assessment and immediate care of all Emergency
patients attending the A&E. this may be delivered personally or by
supervision of other clinical staff.
3.3.4 To ensure that duties and functions are undertaken in a manner that
minimizes delays for patients and possible disruptions of services.
3.3.5 Ongoing participation in Major Disaster Planning for the A&E and the
hospital.
3.4 Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division.
3.5 Staff Supervision and Training:
3.5.1 Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the
director of department/head of division and Director of Postgraduate and
Academic Affairs in planning a program of career development for
trainees.
3.5.2 The selection, supervision and training of Non Consultant Hospital
Doctors and the allocation of duties to them.
3.5.3 Contribute to the provision of structured training and situational learning
opportunities for Non Consultant Hospital Doctor on recognized training
program and support the clinical and professional development of medical
staff in the A&E.
3.5.4 Provide training and clinical support, if requested, to non-medical clinical
staff in the A&E.
3.5.5 The supervision of students in medical, nursing and allied health
professions assigned to A&8.
3.7 Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regard
to continuing medical education.
3.8 Academic Duties:
3.8.1 Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects.
3.8.2 Active participation in A&E and hospital educational activities and the
development of training and education in emergency care in the hospital.
3.8.3 A willingness to develop special interest aspects of ED as appropriate to
one’s competencies, the ED and the hospital.
3.g Deputizes for his superior as required and shares workload in his specialty during
the absence of his colleagues.
3.10 Strives to improve his clinical expertise as well as standard of practice with regard
to morbidity and cost effectiveness.
3.11 Participates in the forward planning, and further development of the
department/division.
3.12 Contribute to clinical governance and clinical operations improvement activities
in the EmergencY DePartment.
3.13 Participate in the collection, analysis and the reporting of data necessary for
quality improvement activities in the Emergency Department.
3.14 Engage in clinical audit activity and provide leadership in multidisciplinary
clinical audit in the Emergency Department.
3.15 Ensuring optimal communication with all medical, management, nursing and
support services in the hospital.

6.2 Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
6.3 Ability to speak, write and read Arabic and English.
6.4 Relevant teaching and continuing medical education activity.
6.5 Ability to contribute to the effective overall management of the Emergency
Medicine Service.
6.6 Evidence of continual professional development.
6.7 Excellen interpersonal skills.
