Job Description
As a Field Geologist in the Geotechnical Department, you will be responsible for conducting geological assessments and investigations in various field settings. Your role will involve collecting data, analyzing geological features, and providing insights that inform engineering projects and environmental assessments.
Responsibilities
Supervision and Quality Control
- Supervise the lab testing team on daily testing activities.
- Ensure testing is performed in accordance with approved codes and standards.
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and timely output of work, including data processing and report preparation.
- Maintain equipment, test records, and reports.
Laboratory Testing and Analysis
- Conduct standard soil testing, including Atterberg limits, grain size analysis, specific gravity, Triaxial Tests, Oedometer Test, Direct Shear Test, Permeability Test, and Rock Testing.
Data Management
- Record, compile, and analyze test results, providing detailed technical laboratory test reports.
- Utilize geotechnical software to interpret laboratory data and create graphical representations for engineering use.
Quality Assurance
- Participate in the development and implementation of quality assurance protocols.
- Regularly calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure operational functionality and accuracy.
Technical Support and Communication
- Provide technical support to project, geo consulting, and engineering teams by interpreting laboratory results and making recommendations for testing programs.
- Communicate findings effectively with the laboratory manager and relevant team members.
Research and Development
- Assist in research and development activities to advance testing methodologies and introduce modern technologies into laboratory practice.
- Stay current with industry trends and technological advancements in geotechnical laboratory testing.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to safety protocols within the laboratory environment to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies during the handling and disposal of test samples.
Requirements
- Minimum bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory role in relevant laboratory testing.
- Relevant experience with ISO 17025 is advantageous.
- Familiarity with ASTM and other international test standards.
- Strong technical proficiency in laboratory testing and analysis of geotechnical materials.
- Familiarity with MS Office; proficiency in Excel VBA is advantageous.
- LIMS experience is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Fluent written and verbal English proficiency.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a multi-divisional department environment.
- Ability to handle scheduling and tracking of multiple tasks simultaneously.
