Architectural Preservation Photographer

As an Architectural Preservation Photographer, your role is to document and capture the historical and architectural significance of buildings, structures, and cultural heritage sites. You will work closely with preservation organizations, historical societies, and architectural firms to create a visual record of endangered or protected structures. Your responsibilities will include conducting research, planning and executing photo shoots, post-processing images, and delivering photographs that preserve the historical integrity and architectural details of these structures

**Responsibilities**
- Research and Documentation: Conduct thorough research on the historical context, architectural style, and significance of the structures or sites to be photographed. Gather information about the original design, construction materials, and any alterations over time. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the preservation goals and requirements for each project.
- Photo Shoot Planning: Collaborate with preservation organizations, historical societies, and project stakeholders to plan and schedule photo shoots. Conduct site visits to assess lighting conditions, access points, and the best angles to capture the architectural features and historical elements.
- Composition and Lighting: Use your artistic and creative skills to compose photographs that showcase the architectural details, craftsmanship, and unique characteristics of the structures. Pay attention to lighting conditions, both natural and artificial, to capture the desired atmosphere and accentuate the historical significance of the buildings.
- Post-Processing and Editing: Edit and enhance photographs using image editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, while maintaining the integrity and authenticity of the historical structures. Pay attention to preserving accurate colors, textures, and details, and adhere to preservation guidelines or client specifications.
- Image Selection and Documentation: Review and select the best photographs that document the historical and architectural elements of the structures. Organize and catalog the images, creating a comprehensive visual record that includes details, close-ups, and overall shots to preserve the historical integrity and architectural significance.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with preservation organizations, historians, and architectural experts to ensure accurate representation and documentation of the structures. Communicate effectively to understand project goals, requirements, and any specific preservation concerns.
- Attention to Detail: Pay meticulous attention to detail to capture precise architectural elements, such as decorative motifs, materials, and craftsmanship. Ensure that the photographs accurately represent the historical and architectural features of the structures.
- Preservation Advocacy: Contribute to the promotion of architectural preservation and heritage conservation by sharing your photographs and knowledge through exhibitions, publications, or digital platforms. Raise awareness about the importance of preserving and protecting historical structures.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on preservation techniques, historical research, and best practices in architectural photography. Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and seminars to enhance your skills and knowledge in architectural preservation photography.

**Requirements**:

- Preferred Secret Clearance but not required.
- Proven experience as an Architectural Photographer, with a strong portfolio showcasing architectural photography work.
- Proficiency in using professional-grade photography equipment and editing software.
- In-depth knowledge of composition, lighting techniques, and architectural photography principles.
- Excellent understanding of color theory, image editing, and post-processing techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to capture precise architectural elements accurately.
- Creative eye for capturing unique perspectives, textures, and spatial relationships.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with clients and project stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and challenging shooting conditions.
- Understanding of copyright laws and intellectual property rights related to photography.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy cabling equipment and work in confined spaces.
