Sterilization Process

The CSSD Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the sterilization process is carried out safely and effectively. This includes identifying which items must be re-sterilized and re-used, checking and ensuring the sterilizer is working correctly, and maintaining a safe and clean environment inside the CSSD.

Quality Assurance

The technician is responsible for assembling instrumentation sets and procedural trays, selecting the appropriate packaging materials, and ensuring safe free movement of instruments and equipment during the packaging process. They must also ensure proper size of packaging material is used for each tray or individual instruments.

Ongoing Education and Training

The technician is expected to maintain the highest levels of professional competence through ongoing personal professional development, including attendance at conferences and symposium, workshops and in-services, reading role-related journals and textbooks, and networking with others.
