Job Title: Safety Officer

At Stantec, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Officer to join our team. As a Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees, clients, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive safety reviews of design plans and specifications to ensure the inclusion of optimum accident prevention controls and safety features.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety programs and accident prevention programs, ensuring conformance with safety standards and procedures.
  • Participate in conferences and discussions with representatives of technical divisions, offices of higher echelons, and other stakeholders to ensure effective safety management.
  • Coordinate and plan safety training courses, working with clients to determine course objectives and recommend nomination of individuals for training.
  • Responsible for working with the client Safety Officer to assist with the implementation and enforcement of all safety rules, regulations, and directives applicable to the work supervised.
  • Evaluate and document conformance with safety standards and procedures.
  • Review, evaluate, and document findings regarding contractor plans related to environmental health hazards.
  • Provide translation services, oral and written, for client staff as needed.
Qualifications:
  • University degree related to engineering technology and/or safety.
  • Minimum of 10 years overall experience.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in engineering.
  • Three years of experience related to the profession of safety inspection.
  • Level 3 English language ability. Ability to speak and read Arabic.
  • Knowledge of building design, construction standards, methods, and practices sufficient to evaluate compliance with safety and occupational health criteria.
  • Knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Knowledge of job hazard analysis and other analytical techniques sufficient to perform mishap investigations and identify causal factors.
  • Knowledge of professional engineering principles, methods, and techniques and skill in devising innovative safety procedures to minimize potential for injury or property damage resulting from construction activities and equipment operations.
