AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating all AWS global infrastructure. This involves ensuring the cloud runs smoothly, supporting data centers, and managing servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to provide continuous access to innovation.

You'll be part of a diverse team comprising software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver high standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for customers.

Key Job Responsibilities

The Regional Environmental Engineer (REE) will ensure environmental compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The REE will develop standards and policies to support regulatory compliance and provide environmental guidance for regional operations and construction teams. This includes completing environmental performance analysis, establishing and monitoring metrics, and guiding teams on implementing Amazon's environmental standards.

The REE will work with internal and external partners, including government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, operations, and other key stakeholders. This role is based in Jeddah and requires regular domestic travel and occasional international travel.

To excel in this role, you must have excellent communication skills, strong knowledge of Saudi Arabia's environmental regulations and standards, demonstrated success in program management, and experience leading teams in complex technical projects. Responsibilities:
  1. Manage and oversee compliance with local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations and Amazon policy.
  2. Develop regional strategic programs by integrating with engineering, construction, and operations teams, driving an environmentally responsible culture within the organization.
  3. Function as a leader regarding regulatory agency interactions, permit evaluation, and processing, as well as introducing new processes and technologies.
  4. Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees meets Amazon's standards.
  5. Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor, and forecast performance.
  6. Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement.
  7. Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.
  8. Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company.
  9. Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to identify and manage risks early.
  10. Submit time-critical reports to governmental agencies.
  11. Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports, developing corrective action.
About the Team

The AWS Environmental team is a growing and dynamic group critical to enabling AWS's growth worldwide and ensuring compliance of AWS's global operations, including physical data centers, facilities, customer-facing enterprises, and products. The Environmental team is responsible for architecting and implementing AWS's global environmental programs, defining and refining global policies and procedures, overseeing standards, tools, auditing, and metrics, and employee training.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. A completed Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, chemical, or environmental engineering, or a related field of study.
  2. Experience serving as an environmental technical resource, program specialist, or program manager.
  3. Experience with regulatory assessments, construction notifications, wastewater authority discharge requirements, waste management, and reporting requirements, with broad knowledge of Saudi Arabia's federal and provincial environmental regulations and standards.
  4. Experience leading change in multiple site environments and influencing those not directly reportable.
  5. Fluent in Arabic, written and spoken.
  6. Experience successfully implementing environmental systems.
  7. Organizational and project management skills.
