Roles and responsibilities

Perform the estimating activities as part of the development of project briefs to establish project and programe level budgets
Support the central Estimating team and monitor the quality of outputs in accordance with KPIs
Liaise with A&P to update the cost data base in accordance with the Cost Breakdown Structure for construction projects and Facilities Management Services
Make presentations as and when required to management teams

Support delivery teams with benchmarking and estimating support when required.
Cost Estimation and Analysis
Prepare Estimates: Calculate the cost of materials, labor, equipment, overhead, and other resources required for the project, based on project plans, drawings, and specifications.
Detailed Cost Breakdown: Break down the costs into categories (materials, labor, subcontractors, equipment, etc. to provide a detailed and clear estimate.
Use Estimating Software: Utilize specialized estimating software and tools (e.g., ProEst, RSMeans, or similar) to streamline the estimation process and ensure accuracy.
Review Historical Data: Review data from similar past projects to refine cost estimates and make them more precise.
. Risk Assessment and Contingency Planning
Identify Risks: Analyze the potential risks and uncertainties that could impact the project's budget, such as price fluctuations, labor shortages, or material delays.
Develop Contingency Plans: Include contingency amounts in the estimate to account for unexpected costs or risks, ensuring that the project remains financially viable even if unforeseen issues arise.
Review and Interpretation of Project Plans
Examine Drawings and Specifications: Review and interpret project plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand the scope and requirements of the project.
Clarify Details: Work closely with architects, engineers, and designers to clarify any unclear or missing details in the project documentation, ensuring accurate estimates.
Measure Quantities: Calculate quantities of materials needed (e.g., square footage, linear footage, volume) from drawings or plans.

Desired candidate profile

Education

Bachelors/ Masters/ PhD in Engineering or equivalent

Experience

5+ years of experience in cost estimation against project requirements

Work with Project Managers: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure the estimate is aligned with the project's scope and objectives.
Consult with Suppliers and Subcontractors: Obtain quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to determine the best pricing for materials and services.
Assist in Bid Preparation: Participate in preparing and submitting bids or proposals for projects, ensuring that estimates are included as part of the proposal package.
Cost Control and Budget Management
Track Costs: Monitor actual costs against the estimates during project to identify any deviations from the budget.
Report on Variances: Provide ongoing updates to project managers and stakeholders about any budget discrepancies or potential cost overruns, and propose corrective actions if necessary.
Value Engineering: Recommend cost-saving alternatives (value engineering) to reduce expenses without compromising the quality or integrity of the project.
