Laboratory Supervisor

The Laboratory Supervisor is required to perform accurate and timely analysis of samples such as feeds, forages, soil, water, animal / plant tissues and fertilizers by following the standard protocols and guidelines.
Laboratory Operations Management:
Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
Ensure laboratory procedures and protocols are followed, including safety guidelines, equipment usage, and sample handling.
Manage and coordinate laboratory schedules, ensuring optimal staffing and resource allocation to meet testing and research demands.
Quality Control and Compliance:
Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality in all laboratory processes, ensuring that results meet regulatory and scientific standards.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including health and safety laws, environmental regulations, and industry standards.
Conduct routine checks and audits to monitor lab activities and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures to prevent errors and enhance the reliability of results.
Team Supervision and Training:
Supervise and mentor laboratory staff, including lab technicians, research assistants, and other team members.
Provide guidance and support in resolving technical or procedural issues in the laboratory.
Oversee staff training on laboratory protocols, equipment operation, safety standards, and new research techniques.
Evaluate performance and provide feedback, conducting regular performance appraisals.
Inventory Management:
Monitor and manage laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring that stock levels are maintained and orders are placed in a timely manner.
Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
Keep track of inventory to avoid shortages and maintain optimal working conditions.
Safety Management:
Ensure all laboratory personnel follow safety protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, and exposure to hazardous materials.
Conduct regular safety training sessions and ensure the laboratory is equipped with necessary safety tools, such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and spill kits.
Investigate and report accidents or safety violations, and implement corrective measures to improve safety.
Data Management and Reporting:
Ensure the accurate recording and analysis of test results, maintaining up-to-date and precise records of all laboratory activities.
Prepare reports and documentation on test results, equipment status, safety incidents, and any other relevant laboratory activities.
Assist in compiling data for research or scientific studies, providing technical input as necessary.
Should be holding Bachelor's or Master's degree in microbiology.
Minimum 2 years of experience in microbiology Laboratory.
Should be able to record and process samples such as feeds, milk, faeces, water, tissue etc and properly store the samples as per standard guidelines to generate accurate results.
Should be able to perform bacteriological & mycoplasma culturing and identification.
Ability to calibrate various lab instruments.
Strong English written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work to deadlines and manage expectations.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and industry best practices.
Proficiency with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis software.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements, such as those outlined by OSHA, FDA, ISO, or other relevant agencies.
Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data and findings.
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, train, and evaluate laboratory staff.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities to handle unexpected issues or equipment failures.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting results and interacting with various teams.
