Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient.
Performs M-Mode and 2-dimensional echocardiograms in both adults, children and children. A thorough knowledge of normal cardiac anatomy and the anatomy of acquired or congenital diseases of the heart is required.
Assists Cardiologist in performing phonocardiography and Trans esophageal echocardiographic procedures.
Performs an assessment on patients of various conditions and ages, considering the physical and physiological needs of every patient
Processes and maintains records of all results. Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment as needed.
Maintains departmental inventory of necessary materials and supplies.
Performs all written documentation, as required by departmental standards, in a timely fashion and submits the completed report.
Responsible to educate patients /families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient / family education process as mention in patient & family education policy and procedure (NSP-GEN-014) including documentation in patient medical record.
They are knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education.
Performs additional duties as directed or assigned by Supervisor.
1. Conducting Echocardiograms
- Perform Diagnostic Tests: Conduct echocardiograms (ultrasound imaging of the heart) to evaluate the heart's structure, function, and blood flow. This may include transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) or transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
- Positioning Patients: Ensure the patient is positioned correctly on the examination table for optimal imaging. This includes using gel and placing the transducer on specific areas of the chest to obtain the necessary images.
- Obtain Clear, High-Quality Images: Use specialized equipment to capture clear and accurate images of the heart, valves, and blood vessels, ensuring they meet diagnostic standards.
- Monitor Patient Comfort: Ensure that the patient is comfortable throughout the procedure and explain the process to reduce any anxiety.
2. Preparing and Maintaining Equipment
- Set Up Equipment: Prepare and calibrate ultrasound equipment before each test to ensure that it's functioning correctly. This includes adjusting settings and ensuring that all necessary accessories are available.
- Troubleshoot Equipment: Identify and troubleshoot technical issues with the echocardiogram machines or related equipment and communicate with technical support if necessary.
Bachelor/Associate of degree or college diploma in healthcare related field from an accredited institution.
Certification in Echo Technician is preferred.
Valid license of specialty from Saudi Council.
Valid Basic Life support certificate.
Skills
Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Friendly, flexible, patient and courteous.
Communicates well in both written and verbal English.
Communication in Arabic is preferred.
Must have good interpersonal skills.
Knowledgeable in computer applications.
1. Technical Skills
- Ultrasound Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating ultrasound machines, including adjusting settings and selecting appropriate imaging techniques for different cardiac assessments.
- Knowledge of Cardiac Anatomy: Understanding of heart anatomy, blood vessels, and normal/abnormal heart function to accurately capture images and measurements.
- Image Interpretation: Basic knowledge of interpreting echocardiogram images to identify abnormalities, although the final diagnosis is made by a physician.
2. Attention to Detail
- Precision in Measurements: Ability to accurately take measurements from echocardiogram images to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Quality Control: Ensuring high-quality, clear images are captured, with minimal artifacts, for accurate clinical assessment.
