Roles and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out impactful research, teach courses related to the candidate's research field, contribute to core courses and/or electives in public sector management and leadership, supervise capstone projects, and contribute to the overall academic environment of the School.
1. Teaching & Curriculum Development
Course Design and Delivery: Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to public finance, fiscal policy, taxation, government budgeting, economic regulation, and public sector economics.
Course Innovation: Ensure that the course materials and teaching methods remain up-to-date with current trends in public finance and economic policy, including the implications of global financial crises, public debt management, and fiscal reforms.
Student Engagement: Encourage critical thinking and practical application of public finance concepts, integrating real-world examples, case studies, and economic modeling into the curriculum.
Advising and Mentorship: Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, especially graduate students and those working on research projects related to public finance and policy.
2. Research and Scholarly Activity
Conducting Research: Engage in rigorous research on topics related to public finance such as tax policy, fiscal decentralization, public expenditure management, social welfare programs, and the economic implications of fiscal policy.
Publishing Research: Publish findings in leading academic journals, books, and policy reports, contributing to the theoretical and empirical understanding of public finance.
Research Grants and Funding: Secure research grants from governmental organizations, international agencies, or private foundations to support research projects and policy analysis related to public finance.
Policy Engagement: Produce research that can inform public policy, including recommendations for fiscal reforms, tax structure optimization, government spending, and debt management.

Desired candidate profile

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in economics with a field specialization in public finance.
Teaching and Mentoring Experience
Teaching Experience: A proven track record of teaching courses in public finance, public economics, and related subjects at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Curriculum Development: Demonstrated ability to design and develop innovative and relevant curricula that engage students and incorporate real-world applications of public finance.
Student Mentorship: Experience in mentoring graduate students, guiding their research, and supporting their academic and professional growth, especially in public finance-related topics.
Diverse Teaching Approaches: Familiarity with a range of teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, online learning, case studies, and simulations.
Skills and Competencies
Quantitative and Analytical Skills: Strong proficiency in statistical and econometric techniques, financial modeling, and data analysis relevant to public finance.
Policy Analysis: Expertise in analyzing fiscal policies, taxation systems, government spending programs, and the broader economic implications of fiscal decisions.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex public finance topics to students, policymakers, and the general public.
International Perspective: A strong understanding of global fiscal issues and the ability to draw comparisons between different countries' fiscal systems and public finance management practices.
