Roles and responsibilities

1. Teaching and Instruction

  • Course Development: Design and develop nursing curricula, including lesson plans, assignments, and exams that align with current trends and evidence-based practices in nursing.
  • Classroom Teaching: Deliver lectures, facilitate discussions, and engage in hands-on demonstrations in the classroom. Use various teaching methods (e.g., case studies, simulations, multimedia) to enhance student learning.
  • Clinical Supervision: Oversee nursing students during their clinical placements, ensuring they gain hands-on experience in real healthcare settings. Provide guidance and feedback on their performance.
  • Student Support: Offer academic and career counseling, mentoring, and guidance to students. Assist students with understanding complex nursing concepts and provide constructive feedback on assignments and exams.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and grade assignments, exams, and projects, providing constructive feedback. Use various methods to assess student learning, such as quizzes, practical exams, and reflective journals.
  • Promote Critical Thinking: Encourage students to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills, especially in clinical settings where immediate and effective judgments are necessary.

2. Research and Scholarship

  • Conduct Research: Engage in research to advance the field of nursing. This could involve clinical research, educational research, or exploring new methodologies in nursing care and practice.
  • Publish Findings: Publish research articles in peer-reviewed nursing journals, present at conferences, and contribute to the scientific community's understanding of nursing practices.
  • Grant Writing: Seek and apply for research funding, collaborating with other academic and healthcare institutions to fund nursing research initiatives.
  • Stay Updated: Continuously update knowledge by reading current nursing literature, attending workshops, and staying informed about new developments, regulations, and technology in the healthcare sector.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Work with other professors, healthcare professionals, and researchers to conduct interdisciplinary studies and share findings that benefit the healthcare system.

3. Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities

  • Departmental Duties: Contribute to the administrative functioning of the nursing department, including helping with departmental planning, meetings, and policy development.
  • Accreditation and Standards Compliance: Ensure the nursing program complies with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements set by relevant educational and healthcare bodies.
  • Curriculum Review: Periodically review and update nursing programs and courses to keep pace with changes in healthcare practices, technologies, and educational strategies.
  • Student Recruitment and Retention: Assist with recruiting new nursing students, and support retention efforts by addressing student concerns, facilitating academic success, and encouraging professional development.
