Roles and responsibilities

Responsible to supervise directly Nursing staff performance during her shift to ensure that patients are receiving the optimal Nursing care and assist the Head Nurse in ensuring that all Nursing staff in the unit are well trained and competent to perform their duties as indicated in their job description.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Supervise the admission, discharge and general flow of patients and ensure efficient process within timeframe.
  • Involve directly in patient care and monitor staff performance to ensure that patients are receiving the right nursing care.
  • Distribute the shift assignment in fairly way considering staff competencies, patient acuity and patient needs.
  • Conduct round on patient and assess them and ensure their needs are met.
  • Supervise medication management including drug counts and proper storage and documentation.
  • Participate in doctor rounds and ensure orders are communicated and carried out.
  • Follow up any pending services, investigation and ensure to be done on time.
  • Attend patients concerns, issues and complaints and does the necessary actions to avoid reoccurrence and correct the situation.
  • Report any unusual event, incident to Nursing supervisor on duty and communicate with the Head Nurse.
  • Assist the staff whenever work load increased, new procedure and handle critical high risk patients.
  • Assist Head Nurse in performing administrative tasks.
    • Staff oreintation and teaching
    • Staff evaluation and development program
    • staff attendance monitoring
    • preparing staff rotas and staff planning
    • preparing required report (patient census and other)
    • Supplies and stock indicators
    • Collecting data for quality indicators
  • Adhere and ensures staff adherence to infection control guidelines, policies and other HMG policies and procedures.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Provide patient and family with required education as per their needs.
  • Ensure the appropriateness of patient rooms before admission.
  • Ensure all services and consumables are charged.
  • Participate in auditing and reviewing the Nursing documentation and ensures the completeness.
  • Perform and carry out Nursing procedures as and when needed.
  • Document the performance of nurses, perform evaluations and counsel nurses on unsatisfactory performance. In addition, meet with Head Nurse to discuss personnel and administrative issues and address and solve problems among staff.
  • Participate in, and lead person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
  • Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
  • Perform any delegated tasks/ duties assigned within realm of knowledge, skills and abilities.
Desired candidate profile

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Experience

Minimum of at least 5 years working experience in same specialty
Professional Licensing / Certification / Training

BLS or relevant certifications i.e. NRP or ACLS
Valid Saudi Council & Licensed from Country of origin
Supervising Nursing Staff
Lead and Supervise Nurses: Manage the nursing team on their shift, ensuring that staff is working efficiently and that patients are receiving appropriate care.
Staff Allocation: Assign nursing tasks to team members based on their skills and the patient's needs, ensuring proper staffing for the unit.
Mentoring and Support: Offer guidance and support to less experienced nurses and assist with skill development. Provide advice on best practices and clinical decision-making.
Performance Management: Monitor the performance of nursing staff, providing feedback and addressing any concerns regarding clinical or professional behavior.
. Patient Care Oversight
Ensure Quality Care: Oversee the delivery of care to patients, ensuring that nursing staff follow proper protocols, standards of practice, and safety measures.
Provide Direct Patient Care: While the charge nurse's role is more managerial, they may still directly care for patients when needed, particularly in critical situations or during high-patient volumes.
Monitor Patient Progress: Track the condition of patients under their unit's care, evaluate treatment plans, and ensure interventions are effective.
Coordination and Communication
Act as a Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact between nursing staff, doctors, hospital management, and patients' families. Ensure smooth communication across all teams.
Facilitate Team Collaboration: Foster collaboration between nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to create cohesive care plans for patients.
Address Patient Concerns: Respond to and resolve patient and family concerns or complaints in a professional manner, ensuring patient satisfaction.
