Hematologist**Basic Function**:
To provide specialized services to adult patients for the diagnosis and management of patients with cancer and its complications. To provide specialized services to adult patients for the diagnosis and management of patients with cancer and its complications.

**Scope**:
The hematologist/oncologist is a staff member of the Oncology Department. His/her responsibilities are divided between the outpatient hematology/oncology clinic (50%) and inpatient services and consultation (40%), tumor board and tumor registry, (5%) as well as, tumor board and tumor registry and the multidisciplinary team as well possible contribution to the Internal Medicine calls as needed. He/she performs his/her duties under the professional supervision of the Chair of Oncology Institute.

**Principal Contacts**:
He/she is in daily contact with patients, their families, nurses, social workers, other hematologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgical oncologist and other surgical specialists who treat patients with cancer, staff physicians and physicians from internal medicine and primary care divisions. He is also in contact with the blood bank and social services personnel and other areas of the hospital that are involved in the care of his/her patients.

**Principal Duties**:
To perform the professional duties of a medical oncologist and hematologist in accordance with delineation of privileges recommended by the head of service and approved by the credentials and privileges committee.
- Performs duties in the hematology/oncology clinic, evaluating and managing patients with cancer and blood diseases.
- Provides care to patients in the oncology ward and medical wards.
- Provides consultation services to the inpatient services in his/her area of expertise.
- Provides consultation to the tumor board, tumor registrar and Cancer care center nurses.
- Contributes to the transfusion review committee.
- Provides after working hour on call coverage for hematologic emergencies.
- Contributes to the educational activities of the service (grand round, case presentations, etc.).
- Participates to the staff meeting.
- Participates and to QI activities of the service (e.g., mortality and morbidity meetings, peer review, etc.)
- Supervises the work of staff physicians.
- Contributes to teaching\mentoring of fellows & residents.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the chief of the service.

**Experience**:
Minimum three years of practice in the field of Medical Oncology or Hematology and proof of expertise in this field following the Board.

**Certifications/Other requirements as applicable**:

- Excellent command of oral and written English.
- Fluency in Arabic is desirable.
- Professional license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
