Basic Function
Performs duties for promoting optimal nutrition care and food services to all patients and staff under the direction of the unit supervisor, clinical nutrition leader and senior dietitians.
Scope

Works within Johns Hopkins Aramco Health Care Nursing & Clinical Service Department in Dhahran, Al Hasa, Ras Tanura, Udayliyah, and Abqaiq.

Responsible under the supervision of the unit supervisor and direction from the senior dietitians for nutrition care and provides dietary services to JHAH staff and patients of various nationalities, cultures, ages and medical conditions.

Performs nutrition assessment and reassessment processes, monitors nutritional status, documents in medical charts and provides patients/caregivers with nutrition education.

Works in out-patients clinics in Dhahran Health Center and districts as scheduled and in the inpatients ward of Dhahran Health Center.

Principal Contacts

Contacts with the supervisor, nutrition advisor, clinical nutrition leader, food services team leader, other staff of Clinical Nutrition and Food Services Unit (CNFSU) and food services contractor.

Contacts with patients, wards clerks, nurses and other members of the health care team to obtain nutrition information, analyzes them, develops nutrition care plans, and assists in nutrition education process for patients and staff.

Frequently supports patient, their families/caregivers for nutrition education.

Principal Duties

Performs nutrition assessment and re-assessment processes of inpatients and outpatients and communicates findings with senior dietitians and other members of the multidisciplinary care team, and documents findings in medical charts.

Plans for nutrition care for patients with the directions of senior dietitians, considering patients ages, body weight, food allergy, medical conditions, cultures, food-drug interactions and laboratory results.

Implements nutrition care plan for patients.

Provides nutrition education for patients and care givers.

Calculates nutrient and caloric intake for patients with guidance from senior dietitians.

Edits diet patterns and menus for patients.

Checks patient’s trays for accuracy.

Performs quality improvement activities as assigned by clinical nutrition leader and senior dietitians.

Participates in nutrition exhibitions awareness campaigns and clinical rounds.

Maintains his/her Continuous Medical Education and keeps updated.

Participates in the unit educational programs and quality improvement activities.

Instructs patients as individuals and groups and conducts in-services, as required.

Attends dietitians meetings.

Maintains advanced level communication skills, including counselling skills, motivation and behavior change strategies.

Participates in the training programs for nutrition students and interns of the local universities.

Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by the supervisor, clinical nutrition leader and senior dietitians.

Performs duties on week days and weekends/holidays as per the operational need of the unit.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Nutrition, preferable current license with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
Experience

Up to 2 years experience clinical nutrition experience.

Completed 1 year internship in a JCI accredited hospital.

Certifications/Other requirements as applicable

Able to read and comprehend medical charts and clinical references.

Has an updated knowledge and practices on dietetics and food services.

Has adequate knowledge and understanding of the relevant cultures and religious beliefs pertaining to food and nutrition.

Active member in an International Nutrition Association.
