Data Governance Specialist

**Purpose of the Role**:
Data governance specialists are responsible for ensuring that data is used and stored appropriately within an organization. They work with a variety of different departments, including marketing, sales, IT, etc., to ensure that everyone is using the same definitions, standards, and processes when it comes to data management.
Data governance specialists are also be tasked with developing new policies or procedures related to data use in their organization. This might include anything from creating guidelines for how data should be handled to implementing software systems that help monitor and track data usage across the company.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Reviewing data sources to identify any gaps in coverage that require additional data collection efforts. Improve quality and value of core data assets
- Developing and implementing data security policies to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access or use
- Establishing data standards for a company’s database environment, including defining fields and creating rules for data entry and retrieval
- Reviewing use of data by company departments to ensure compliance with privacy laws and regulations
- Creating reports on data trends across departments and regions within an organization to help identify opportunities for improvement or changes in strategy
- Collaborating with business managers to ensure that data quality is maintained over time
- Developing policies on acceptable methods for reporting results and presenting findings to stakeholders
- Manage data related regulatory protection requirements
- Working with IT staff to maintain databases by adding new data or updating existing data sets
- Developing a database management plan for large scale data analysis projects
**Qualifications and Experience Levels**:
- Minimum 5+ experience in related field
- Bachelor of computer science filed and professional data governance qualification
