Child Life Specialist

Conducts plannededucational and recreational activities for children and their families.Assists families in recognising and dealing with children and adolescentsintellectual, physical, emotional, and social development.
**Essential Responsibilities and Duties**:
- Helpschildren cope with anxiety, fear, separation, and adjustment and acts as thechild’s advocate while in the Hospital.
- Supportschildren and their families by using a variety of tactics to help them betterunderstand the process, procedure, or other elements of their medicalexperience.
- Developsage-appropriate strategies to minimize trauma and increase understanding of amedical diagnosis through treatment plans using therapeutic play, education,preparation, and activities that promote growth and development.
- Helpspatients in accepting painful procedures or interventions through play therapyand a coping process, which will decrease sedation needs and psychologicaltrauma.
- Workswith pediatric services for inpatient and outpatient consultation forpsychological assessment and IQ testing; how to break bad news with thepatients and families and provides emotional family support after thesignificant event.
- Moderatesplay, conversations, art, and other forms of self-expression to preparechildren for upsetting events (i.e., Routine blood tests, procedures,medication administration, breaking bad news, etc.).
- Assessesthe physical, social and emotional responses of the child and family to illnessand hospitalization. Enables cognitive behavior therapy to the child/patient.
- Facilitatesdaily interaction between patients and Hospital staff members. Assistspsychological assessment and initiates referral to appropriate servicepsychology and child psychiatry.
- Supportschildren and their families’ process and cope with medical situations. Facilitates special educational group events forpatients and their families.
- Advocatesfor the special needs of children and their families and provides information,support, and guidance to parents and family members.
- Followsall Hospital’s related Policies and Procedures.
- Participatesin self and others' education, training and development, as applicable.
**Education**:
Bachelor’sDegree in child life studies, or others related field such as childdevelopment, child and family studies, psychology, or early childhood educationis required.
**Experience Required**:
**Grade 08**:
Two (2) years of related experience, or successfulcompletion of specialization training at the Hospital for new graduates isrequired.
**Grade 09**:
Four (4) years as Child Life Specialist at KFSH&RC, or (Grade 08)related.
experience is required.
Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four(4)years.
Fifty (50) hours ofcumulative continued medical education [CME].
**Other Requirements(Certificates)**:
Current Registered from country of origin and SaudiCommission for Health Specialties Licensure is required.
Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) by Child LifeCouncil is preferred.
Education requirements as determined from theAssociation of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) is preferred.
