Principal Engineer, Project Design Assurance

**OVERALL, JOB PURPOSE**:
The Principal Engineer, Project Design Assurance, as part of the Advanced Studies Group is responsible for the quality of and assuring that the engineering done during prefeasibility studies, oversight and monitoring of feasibility studies in collaboration with PDE, is compliant, verified, and sufficient to support the study goals. He supports both the Advanced Studies Manager and the Assurance and Project Governance Manger in delivering studies that are underpinned by quality and coordinated engineering from all disciplines that measures up to expectations of all relevant stakeholders.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
The general duties of the Principal Engineer, Project Design Assurance include:

- Assists the Advanced Studies group in the coordination of execution, schedule, costing, estimating and scoping strategies for proposed projects and in the development and preparation of project specific documentation, standards, and specifications.
- Preparing engineering designs and documentation for early-stage studies.
- Accountable to review and validate design packages, plans and specifications, reports and other engineering deliverables for projects, engineered systems, technical equipment and infrastructure received from consultants and other third parties or produced inhouse by the Department and BU staff.
- Accountable to review or action the checking of staff computations, quantity estimates, reports and other engineering deliverables.
- Assists with the oversight of the management of project documentation using the designated corporate EDMS (Aconex)
- Assists with the conduct or action of Value Engineering, HAZOP or similar studies and reviews at appropriate stages in the development of project studies.
- Promotes safety in design for all studies and for projects executed by the Advanced Studies Group.
- Risk Management. Assists with the risk management for studies conducted by the Advanced Studies Group and ensures that risks identified are addressed in the engineering design.
- Procedures, Standards and Specifications. Assists with communications with PDE to ensure that the required project and study standards and specifications are in place and maintained regularly, and assist the Department Management in development, reviewing, improvement and implementing of policies, procedures, systems and programs relating to the activities of the department.
- For prefeasibility Studies ensures that for all engineering disciplines, including Mining, Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Control and Automation, Civil and Structural coordinate their efforts and deliver work that is sufficient to support the required study outcomes, that the work is reviewed and verified, and that the work is compliant and adherence to the corporate policies and procedures (HR, Procurement, Financials, HSE) and management systems (MSHEM and MCIS), and to national and international codes, standards and regulations

**COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**:
Sustained communication, interaction, engagement and reporting with all subordinates, peers, management and other stakeholders within the department, BM&NM BU and Ma’aden.

Similarly, will be required to interact and communicate periodically with consultants, contractors, and service providers regarding the compliance, quality management and assurance of the projects and studies.

Display the ability to work in and lead multi-disciplinary teams with both external and internal resources.

Develops Study and Project specific execution plans, work procedures and methodologies to ensure optimal personal and team performance in accordance with established practices, corporate and industry requirements, and professional standards.

Displays the ability to work independently and responsibly with diligence and minimum oversight within the bounds of the approved corporate and departmental authority matrix.

Is able to travel and spend time away from the departmental office, typically on mine sites or in third party offices.

Perform all regular or ad hoc duties as per the assigned project charter, or as directed by management.

**QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS**:

- Mandatory bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or similar)
- Required further qualifications, training and/or experience in QA/QC, Risk Management, Project and Engineering Management and Controls, and digitization.
- At least 10 years project, study, and mining experience, with a preference for specific experience in the development and verification of Base metals and Minerals projects in terms of sustainability, feasibility and corporate strategy.
- Computer literate, with a working knowledge of scheduling and engineering software, and corporate enterprise systems
- Proficient in English, both for verbal and written communications. Display the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
