Roles and responsibilities

Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive personal data protection program for the organization
Ensure compliance with personal data protection laws and regulations
Communicate with stakeholders across the organization to provide guidance on personal data protection issues
Conduct training and awareness sessions for employees on personal data protection best practices
Investigate and respond to complaints related to personal data handling practices
Work with IT teams to implement technical and organizational measures to protect personal data
Monitor and review the company's personal data protection policies and practices on an ongoing basis
1. Compliance with Data Protection Laws and Regulations:
Ensure Compliance: The DPO ensures that the organization complies with relevant data protection laws and regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Data Protection Act, or other jurisdiction-specific privacy laws.
Monitor Legislative Changes: Stay up-to-date with changes in data protection laws, privacy regulations, and industry best practices, and ensure that the organization adjusts its policies and procedures accordingly.
Advise on Legal Matters: Provide advice and guidance to the organization's leadership on legal obligations, data protection risks, and the impact of new regulations or changes in legislation.
2. Data Protection Policies and Procedures:
Develop and Implement Policies: Develop, implement, and update data protection policies and procedures to ensure that personal data is processed in a secure, legal, and transparent manner.
Establish Best Practices: Define best practices for data handling, storage, retention, and disposal. Ensure that personal data is protected against unauthorized access, alteration, or loss.
Data Breach Response: Establish protocols for responding to data breaches or security incidents. Ensure that the organization is prepared to notify relevant authorities and affected individuals in case of a breach, as required by law.

Desired candidate profile

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
Minimum 5 years of experience in personal data protection or related field
Knowledge of personal data protection laws and regulations, including GDPR
Experience designing and implementing personal data protection programs
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to train employees on personal data protection best practices
Attention to detail and ability to analyze complex information
Risk Assessment and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs):
Conduct Risk Assessments: Perform regular risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities in data processing activities and ensure that risks to personal data are minimized.
Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs): Lead and support DPIAs when initiating new projects, services, or processing activities that may impact the privacy of individuals. Ensure that privacy risks are identified, mitigated, and documented before proceeding with any new processing activities.
Monitor and Review Risks: Continuously monitor the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies and adjust them as necessary.
Employee Training and Awareness:
Training Programs: Develop and conduct regular training programs for staff members across all levels of the organization to ensure they are aware of data protection principles, the organization's policies, and their responsibilities in safeguarding personal data.
Promote Awareness: Raise awareness about data protection and privacy rights within the organization, helping employees understand the importance of privacy and security in everyday business activities.
Monitor Compliance: Ensure that employees and contractors adhere to the organization's data protection policies and best practices.
