Roles and responsibilities

Ensures through his/her actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the Riyadh Care Hospital.

Assists designated Dentist and provides oral hygiene prophylaxis.

Performs oral prophylaxis and gives oral hygiene instructions to the patients.

Provides chair side assistance to the Dentists.

Maintenance of the materials, equipment and cleanliness.

Performs cleaning, washing, packing and sterilization of instruments to prevent cross infection as per department policy.

Maintains and periodically reviews skill learned in First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation; handles medical emergencies until the Dentist arrives on the scene or assists the Dentist in rendering emergency first aid until additional medical help is available.

Charts accurately the findings of the patient's oral conditions as reported by the doctor; records the treatment rendered in the patient's permanent chart.

Coordinates with the reception and encoder for charges, arranging appointments and other necessary paper work.

Participates in on-going education monthly as developed by the department.

Help maintains dental surgery equipment.

Abides by the department policies and procedures, by-laws, rules and regulations of the Insurance Hospital.

Responsible to educate patients /families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient / family education process as mention in patient & family education policy and procedure (NSP-GEN-014) including documentation in patient medical record.
They are knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education.

Complies with hospital dress code.

Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee's knowledge, skills and abilities.
Patient Care Assistance
Preparing patients for treatment: Helping patients feel comfortable by preparing them for dental procedures, explaining what will happen, and answering any questions.
Taking patient medical histories: Collecting and updating patient medical histories to ensure the dentist is informed of any health conditions or medications that may affect treatment.
Sterilizing instruments: Ensuring that dental instruments are cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use.
Assisting during procedures: Handing instruments to the dentist during procedures, such as fillings, cleanings, extractions, and other treatments.
Post-treatment care: Providing patients with aftercare instructions and helping them understand how to manage their recovery process.

Desired candidate profile

A minimum of:

Certified Dental Assistant through challenge exam from a professionally recognized organization.

Experience
Required

Minimum one (1) years' experience Post Qualification.

Desirable

Registration in Saudi Medical Council

Clinical Support
Taking X-rays: Assisting with the taking of dental radiographs (X-rays) as needed for diagnosis and treatment planning. This requires knowledge of safety protocols and the use of equipment.
Taking impressions and molds: Helping to create impressions of teeth for dental crowns, bridges, dentures, or other treatments.
Assisting with restorative procedures: Providing assistance with fillings, crowns, and other restorative treatments, such as suctioning or placing dental materials.
Preparing dental materials: Mixing and preparing dental materials such as fillings, cements, and impressions.
Patient Communication and Education
Explaining procedures: Communicating with patients about their treatment plans, upcoming procedures, and any follow-up care required.
Providing education on oral hygiene: Offering guidance on brushing, flossing, and the importance of good oral hygiene to prevent future dental issues.
Addressing patient concerns: Answering patient questions and alleviating concerns to ensure they feel informed and comfortable.
Administrative Tasks
Scheduling appointments: Managing the appointment calendar, scheduling patient visits, and sending reminders.
Billing and coding: Handling insurance paperwork, billing patients, and coding for dental procedures to ensure proper reimbursement.
Managing patient records: Updating and maintaining accurate patient records, including treatment history and radiographs.
Handling correspondence: Communicating with patients about follow-up care or appointment changes and managing any necessary paperwork.
