Game Director

Steer Studios is seeking a Game Director with deep knowledge of multiple game genres and a drive for storytelling to develp the Middle East's first major international-caliber AAA console/pc game. You will act in a project & studio leadership capacity to drive gameplay vision, solve production & creative problems, and work alongside the Editorial Content Director to produce an exciting new IP. You will be responsible for building design teams and collaborating with internal & external development partners. The major focus areas of this position will be gameplay vision creation, creativity, communication, problem solving & leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the gameplay development a AAA console/pc game, from conception to final release.
• Own and create an innovative game design vision that will delight the players of today and of the future.
• Be a world-caliber expert on current player trends, industry trends & future trends.
• Build an efficient team of Game Designers recruited internationally and within Saudi Arabia.
• Plan, detail, and directly supervise the work of Game Designers on your team.
• Ensure the team is creating innovative gameplay experiences for the defined game vision to set the game's foundation.
• With the Editorial Content Director, conceptualize a new game IP's rules, settings, and stories.
• Independently manage various creative ideation steps from pitching ideas to rapid prototyping.
• Define GDDs for various game systems and document all details, iterations, and changes for the development teams.
• Review game features to ensure they are fun and developed as per the GDDs.
• Regularly play the game to provide feedback and perform quality control.
• Master continuous review and iteration processes to incorporate user feedback in game design and feature set.
• Collaborating closely and ensuring alignment with artists, developers, and other team members.
• Capacity to train, coach, and develop junior game designers and promote experience sharing.
• Create a developer-professionalism mindset & culture in the dev team, beyond mastery of game design and technical subjects.
• Help production understand the design team's production capacity and work together to schedule and prioritize tasks.
• Communicate with and report to the Editorial Content Director.

Qualifications and Key Skills:

• Industry-leading expertise in AAA console game development with multiple AAA titles shipped.
• 8+ years of experience as a game design lead.
• Mastery of the industry, market, and target audience trends.
• Expert communication skills & professionalism.
• Ability to write clear documentation, making complex ideas clear, concise, and compelling. Ability to give positive and constructive feedback. (Briefings, review, discussions, problem-solving, etc.)
• Passion for video games and an ability to inspire others with that passion.
• Strong understanding of KPIs and ability to drive game design around KPIs.
• Experience in prototyping and shipping games with Unreal engine and well-versed with its constraints.
• Extensive knowledge of Game Design principles and the gaming landscape.
• Attention to detail from both technical and artistic perspectives.
• Strong proactive problem-solving and intuitive development skills.
• Being a leader who encourages team collaboration.
• Being a passionate gamer with an eye for details.
• Being a fast and willing learner.
• A Bachelor's degree or College diploma in game design or equivalent is preferred.
