Position Overview:
The Surveyor - GIS Specialist will be responsible for conducting topographic, land, and construction surveys using traditional and advanced geospatial techniques. The role also involves managing and analyzing spatial data within a GIS environment, integrating drone-based data acquisition, and supporting design and planning teams with accurate geospatial information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform topographic, boundary, construction layout, and as-built surveys using GNSS, total stations, and leveling instruments.
- Plan and execute UAV (drone) surveys, including mission planning, flight operations, and data processing (orthomosaics, point clouds, and 3D models).
- Develop and maintain GIS databases and spatial datasets to support engineering, planning, and environmental projects.
- Process and analyze survey data using software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, ArcGIS, or QGIS.
- Integrate survey results and GIS layers for mapping, analysis, and visualization.
- Prepare survey drawings, digital terrain models (DTMs), contour maps, and site plans for project documentation.
- Verify survey accuracy through field checks, cross-sectioning, and control point validation.
- Collaborate with civil and design engineers to ensure spatial data consistency across project deliverables.
- Manage geodetic control networks, coordinate systems, and transformations as required.
- Ensure compliance with local surveying standards, safety regulations, and data management procedures.
- Contribute to the adoption of new geospatial technologies, including LiDAR, photogrammetry, and 3D modeling workflows.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 - 8 years of experience in land surveying and GIS data management within an engineering or infrastructure environment.
- Proven experience in drone surveying, data collection, and processing (Pix4D, DroneDeploy, Agisoft Metashape, etc.).
- Proficiency in survey instruments (Total Station, GNSS, Level) and software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and georeferencing principles.
- Experience with terrain modeling, contour generation, and spatial analysis.
- Knowledge of LiDAR data processing and 3D visualization is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid surveying or UAV operation license (where applicable) is an advantage.
- Strong English language proficiency.
