Position Summary:

  • The Automotive Bodyshop Mechanical Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing mechanical and welding equipment within the automotive body shop environment. This includes ensuring that robotic welding cells, conveyor systems, press tools, and associated mechanical systems operate at peak performance, supporting quality production output and minimal equipment downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine and preventive mechanical maintenance of welding and body fabrication equipment including robotic welding systems, presses, fixtures, conveyors, and tooling.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical failures, aligning systems to design specifications and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Collaborate with electrical and controls maintenance teams to address integrated mechanical-electrical issues impacting production flow.
  • Support commissioning, setup, and alignment of new equipment installations, as well as modifications needed for product changeovers.
  • Utilize hand tools, precision measuring equipment, and mechanical schematics to perform tasks safely and accurately.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance logs, spare parts inventories, and documentation in maintenance management systems.
  • Adhere strictly to safety, quality, and environmental regulations, actively participating in continuous improvement initiatives such as TPM, 5S, and root cause analysis.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Technical diploma, certification, or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related discipline.
  • Experience with automotive bodyshop equipment including welding cells, welding, and material handling systems.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability with precision mechanical repair experience.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, interpret tooling specifications, and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills to coordinate across maintenance and production departments.
