Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced
Design Engineer (Primary & Secondary)
to support the engineering, design, and documentation of high-voltage substations (HV/MV). The role involves preparing layouts, electrical schematics, protection designs, and civil work interfaces while ensuring compliance with international standards and client specifications.

This position is open to candidates with
Electrical or Civil Engineering
backgrounds who have relevant substation design experience.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Design (Electrical/Civil)

  • Develop
    substation primary layouts
    including SLDs, equipment layouts, bus arrangements, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Design and selection of HV/MV equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, CTs, VTs, surge arrestors, etc.).
  • Prepare
    foundation and structural design inputs
    (for Civil engineers).
  • Create
    cable routing, trenching, and earthing layout
    .
  • Conduct equipment sizing, BOQs, technical specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and utility standards.

Secondary Design (Electrical)

  • Prepare
    control & protection schematics
    , control wiring diagrams, interlocking diagrams and panel layouts.
  • Capable of
    reviewing and executing complete Secondary Engineering activities
    for AIS/GIS Substation projects across multiple geographical regions.
  • Provide engineering inputs for development of
    BIM-enabled secondary system models
    and support integration with primary and civil models.
  • Design
    protection schemes
    (Distance, Differential, Overcurrent, Busbar protection, etc.).
  • Support the full project lifecycle from
    pre-bid engineering, design development, FAT, SAT, commissioning
    , up to warranty support.
  • Review vendor drawings for
    protection relays, control panels, communication systems, and SCADA equipment
    ; ensure compliance with project standards
  • Coordinate with vendors on protection relays and control panel requirements.

Coordination & Project Support

  • Work closely with project managers, civil/structural teams, and site personnel.
  • Review vendor drawings, conduct technical evaluations, and provide design clarifications.
  • Participate in design reviews, FAT, and site support if required.
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering packages.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in
    Electrical Engineering
    or
    Civil Engineering
    .
  • 3–15 years of experience in
    HV/MV substation design
    (GIS/AIS).
  • Hands-on experience with design tools: AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, SCAD, CYMGRD, CYME, or similar.
  • Knowledge of protection systems, SCADA, grounding, and equipment rating calculations.
  • Strong understanding of IEC/IEEE/utility standards.
  • Excellent documentation and coordination skills.
