Role Overview

The Project Director is accountable for the overall delivery, governance, and strategic oversight of large-scale construction projects. This position provides leadership across project teams, ensuring delivery is achieved in line with contractual requirements, safety standards, quality benchmarks, approved budgets, and agreed timelines.

The role requires regular engagement with senior client stakeholders, internal leadership teams, and project delivery functions, acting as the primary authority for project performance and escalation.

Core Responsibilities

1. Project Leadership and Delivery Oversight

  • Provide executive-level oversight of one or multiple projects through direct management of Project Managers
  • Ensure projects are delivered in compliance with contractual scope, programme, cost, and quality requirements
  • Review, approve, and enforce project safety and environmental management plans
  • Ensure full alignment with corporate quality, safety, environmental, and health standards

2. Team Leadership and Performance Management

  • Lead, mentor, and support Project Managers and senior site leadership teams
  • Establish clear communication channels across project teams
  • Chair regular progress and coordination meetings
  • Monitor team performance and intervene where corrective action is required

3. Reporting, Governance, and Controls

  • Ensure accurate project documentation, records, and reporting mechanisms are maintained
  • Review internal reports for accuracy, compliance, and completeness prior to submission
  • Provide structured updates on progress, risk, and performance to senior stakeholders

4. Commercial, Budget, and Resource Control

  • Oversee project financial performance, including budgets, forecasts, and expenditure
  • Coordinate with commercial and procurement teams to ensure effective cost control
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost efficiencies without compromising quality or programme

5. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Act as the senior point of contact for clients and key external stakeholders
  • Manage escalations, queries, and administrative coordination at a senior level
  • Support strong working relationships across all parties involved in project delivery

Industry

  • Construction

Experience and Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum
    20 years' experience
    in project delivery within the construction sector
  • At least
    5 years in a senior leadership or supervisory role
    on large or complex projects
  • Proven experience delivering major or mega-scale developments
  • Strong understanding of project governance, execution frameworks, and management systems
  • High level of competence in planning, execution, monitoring, and risk management
  • Fluency in English is required; Arabic language skills are advantageous

Education and Professional Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Master's degree and/or professional certifications (e.g., PMP or equivalent) are desirable
  • Working knowledge of ISO management systems and standards is beneficial

Technical and Professional Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience working with document control and project management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to assess issues and implement solutions
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities concurrently
