Post-Doctoral Position in LiDAR remote sensing 2021

Fixed Term Contract 1 year, full-time, extendable up to 3 years

The Photonics Laboratory ) of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) invites applications for a post-doctoral position in the area of LiDAR remote sensing. The Photonics Laboratory aims at delivering compact and energy-saving integrated laser-diode based devices and solutions for applications requiring light spanning the ultraviolet to the visible and near-infrared regime. A plethora of practical laser-based solutions are conceived, and proof-of-concept models built for data collection and testing of a new class of innovative multi-function optoelectronic devices and optical fiber systems.

We are looking for a researcher who has completed Ph.D. in the past five years, or will complete Ph.D. soon, and wish to bootstrap career, embracing the unique opportunity of participating in the shaping of such a challenging and innovative research theme, as well as contributing to the ambitious research agenda of the Photonics Laboratory, supported by a very substantial funding landscape.

Your Role

Successful candidates will be given excellent conditions for the development of their research skills, in terms of working conditions, mentoring and laboratory facilities.

The main research topics this opening is calling for are aligned with the research priorities of the Photonics Laboratory:

• Airborne, topographic, and terrestrial LiDAR
• LiDAR remote sensing for the oil and gas industry
• LiDAR remote sensing for agricultural applications
• LiDAR imaging in harsh environmental conditions
• Fiber-based LiDAR

The candidates will work closely with Prof. Boon S. Ooi and his team members

), interacting closely as well with other members of the Photonics Laboratory ). You are expected to do high-quality research, participate actively to projects, help mentor students and publish results in the most selective venues. Good communication and presentation skills are a must. English is the working language of this international laboratory.

Thanks to very effective measures, including the involvement ) of its researchers, the COVID-19 pandemic has barely affected the KAUST campus-city.

We welcome candidates with a PhD in Eelectrical/Electronic Engineering or related areas, with a strong experimental and theoretical background in LiDAR remote sensing. It is highly recommended to have experience with Matlab, Labview, and hardware prototyping.
