Civil Material Testing Technician

Role & responsibilities

1. Material Testing & Inspection

  • Perform laboratory and site tests on concrete, cement, aggregates, soil, asphalt, steel, and other construction materials.
  • Conduct tests such as slump test, compressive strength, sieve analysis, compaction, moisture content, and density tests.
  • Collect and prepare material samples according to approved procedures and standards.

2. Quality Control & Compliance

  • Ensure all materials meet project specifications, international standards (ASTM, BS, AASHTO), and Quality requirements.
  • Identify non-conforming materials and report findings to QC Engineers or Supervisors.
  • Assist in implementing corrective actions for failed test results.

3. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of test results, calibration logs, and inspection reports.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly material testing reports.
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and traceability of samples and test data.

4. Equipment Handling & Maintenance

  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory and field testing equipment.
  • Ensure testing instruments are in good working condition and compliant with calibration schedules.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs.

5. Site Coordination & Support

  • Coordinate with site engineers, QA/QC teams, and project managers during inspections and testing activities.
  • Provide technical support during concrete pours, earthworks, and material deliveries.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure materials are used correctly.

6. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Follow Company safety policies and HSE procedures during all testing activities.
  • Ensure safe handling of materials, chemicals, and testing equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory and testing area.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated on testing standards and best practices.
  • Support audits, inspections, and quality reviews as required by NSH Company or clients.

Preferred candidate profile

Diploma in Civil Engineering with 25 years' experience in civil material testing, strong knowledge of ASTM/BS standards, hands-on lab and site testing skills, and experience in QC documentation and HSE compliance.
