Job Requirements for a Civil Engineer – Infrastructure Designer (Proficient in Engineering Software)1. Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in
    Civil Engineering
    or a related field.
  • Preferably with additional certificates or courses in roads engineering, drainage networks, water networks, or urban infrastructure design.

2. Work Experience

2 to 7 years
of experience in designing infrastructure projects (depending on the position level).

Technical office engineer

  • Experience in designing:
  • Road networks
  • Stormwater drainage systems
  • Sewer networks
  • Water distribution networks
  • Site development works
  • Quantity surveying

3. Technical Skills & Required Software

The candidate should be proficient in key engineering design tools, such as:

Design & Drafting Software

  • AutoCAD
    (advanced level)
  • Naviswork
  • Atocad
  • Civil 3D
    (essential for road, utility, and grading design)

Modeling & Analysis Software

  • HEC-HMS / HEC-RAS
    for hydrology and drainage system design
  • StormCAD / SewerCAD / WaterCAD
  • InfraWorks
    for preliminary infrastructure modeling
  • GIS
    knowledge (ArcGIS or QGIS)

Other Engineering Tools
(depending on specialization)

  • SAP2000 / ETABS
    (if the work includes simple supporting structures)
  • MS Office
    , especially Excel, for calculations and analysis.

4. Engineering Knowledge & Responsibilities

  • Strong understanding of local and international design standards such as
    AASHTO, ASTM, BS, ACI
    , depending on project requirements.
  • Ability to prepare:
  • Construction drawings
  • Detailed design plans
  • Bill of Quantities (BOQ)
  • Technical reports
  • Ability to review and approve infrastructure design drawings and propose design solutions.

5. Personal Skills

  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Problem-solving and site analysis skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.

6. Key Job Duties

  • Designing infrastructure networks and preparing profiles, grading plans, and cross-sections.
  • Performing hydraulic and hydrologic analysis for water and drainage systems.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines (architectural, electrical, mechanical).
  • Assisting in project proposals, cost estimates, and technical submissions.
  • Providing technical support during construction supervision (if required).
