Role Purpose

To plan, design and lead the implementation of all civil construction projects for SANS in order to meet operational, safety and regulatory requirements within the set KPIs, agreed budgets and adopted policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Key Accountability Areas	Key Activities
Project Management	Participate in the development and maintenance of the current and future design of SANS’ Buildings and sites, such that they meet operational, safety and regulatory requirements Participate in the final handover of civil engineering projects, including testing and commissioning and ensuring that it meets operational standards and design specifications
Civil Engineering Operations	Review and approve contracted projects’ schedules, budgets and manpower requirements as well as contractors’ drawings and choice of materials or vendors Plan and design the requirements, specification and facilities of ANS equipment as well as their distribution in coordination with other SED Departments as per international standards and requirements set by ICAO Develop drawings and plans for facilities and sites in coordination with other SED engineers
Site and Materials Management	Prepare specifications for purchases of materials or equipment, and estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment and labor to determine project feasibility Develop final shop drawings of facilities and sites and participate in surveying to establish reference points and elevations to guide construction activities
Vendor Management	Review and approve contracted projects’ schedules, budgets and manpower requirements as well as contractors’ drawings and choice of materials or vendors Develop Requests for Proposals (RFPs), participate in the evaluation and selection of proposals, systems, vendors and contractors, including assessing post-installation training, and draft the technical sections of the contract
Safety and Compliance	Analyze potential sites in airports to identify the most suitable according to topography, geology, weather conditions and strength of foundation for the installation of ANS equipment Ensure that all laborers are well trained and equipped to conduct their work in line with international health and safety standards
Training and Communication	Provide technical support, guidance and advice to less experienced staff in the delivery of their work Participate in the final handover of civil engineering projects, including testing and commissioning and ensuring that it meets operational standards and design specifications
Policies, Processes and Procedures	Support in monitoring day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes taking into account leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience	Minimum of 3 years of experience in civil engineering.
Education and Certifications	Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural or equivalent Engineering
