Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present juvenile cases to be adjudicated in juvenile court under the supervision of the Chief Tribal Prosecutor for CTWS.
  • Maintain confidentiality of case-related matters and ensure compliance with all laws, codes, policies, and procedures.
  • Exercise impartiality, discretion, and uphold high standards of conduct, integrity, judgment, and ethics.
  • Effectively communicate with juveniles, families, Tribal Court personnel, and tribal, federal, and state agencies.
  • Must have no felony or misdemeanor convictions within the past 5 years, including no violations of tribal law, and be 21 years of age or older.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; or an Associates Degree in a related field.
  • Extensive background and work experience with troubled children and families can substitute for an associate's degree.
  • Three years of relevant training or experience in a Tribal Court system.
  • Must pass the tribal bar exam.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of tribal, federal, and state laws, the Indian Child Welfare Act, Rules of Court, Tribal Code, and tribal judicial system.
  • Demonstrated understanding of patrol and investigation processes, evidence gathering, case preparation, and court presentation.
  • Good investigative and report writing skills.
  • Familiarity with the customs and traditions of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Oregon, especially those related to child-rearing practices and family relationships.
  • Essential computer and clerical skills.
  • Understanding of basic legal concepts relevant to Warm Springs Juvenile Court and ability to implement the provisions of the Warm Springs Rules of Court and Tribal Court.
