Overview:

Join a fast-growing fintech that is disrupting the banking market on multiple levels. The company, based in Saudi Arabia, is building the country's first lifestyle, digital-only bank. The bank integrates high volumes of customer retail data with a cutting edge digital banking platform to give customers a super app that can facilitate loyalty, payments and rewards.

Role Overview:

As a crucial member of the Executive Team, the COO will drive the build and launch of a market-ready digital Bank into the KSA market. The COO will be a visible presence across the entire organisation and own the operations and customer servicing agenda. Working with the CEO and the leadership team, the COO will translate the company vision into the operating model and rhythm of the business. The ideal COO will be the chief architect of how the bank operates.

This role will suit someone with an entrepreneurial spirit and a deep understanding of banking operations. They will be highly motivated and relish the opportunity to build a new operating model for an industry-leading digital bank in the region.

This role is a critical part of the leadership team, instrumental in setting direction, and a considerable part of the culture they're building. The COO will be responsible for:

  • The operating model
  • The bank's core processes
  • The banking operations and service teams
  • The risk and compliance framework (1st line of defence)
  • The location and premises

Where does this role sit? COO reports to the CEO and will be a key member of our leadership team – CPO, CCO, CRO, CTO and CFO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building the overall target operating model for the Bank for go-live and beyond.
  • Bringing the "best-in-class" operations and customer servicing leadership for the Bank
  • Putting the customer at the heart of the operations.
  • Developing the structure and operating model for the following functions: Onboarding, KYC, Servicing, Customer Complaints, Transaction Screening and Monitoring, 1st line Operational Risk
  • Identifying, negotiating, and managing critical operational vendors and partnerships
  • Creating a high-bar culture of performance.
  • Building out the operations team for launch and evolving it beyond launch to meet the needs of the Banks efficiently
  • Pro-actively building capabilities for the Bank's future as a market-leading, digital Bank with a sophisticated omni-channel servicing model
  • Being the voice of operations on the Executive Team
  • Ensuring tight alignment with technology, so all products have the appropriate operational support
  • Creating a culture of excellence in all processes and driving automation bank-wide, setting up the right cross-department and functional work streams
  • Implementing a culture of OKR setting and analytical, data-driven decision-making
  • Leading development and embedding of 1st line risk framework, control environment and culture across the Bank
  • Leading and developing the Bank's location and premises strategy
  • Providing regular updates to various governance committees and stakeholders, including board, regulators, and investors.

The successful individual will possess the following attributes:

  • Deep experience operationalising strategy - from vision to execution - as a C/VP level in a scaled financial technology start-up or high-growth Bank
  • Building operating models from scratch
  • Strong and collaborative people management, leadership, and culture nurturing
  • Background in a technology-led bank
  • A strong track record of leadership across all facets of operations achieved through innovative thinking and implementing new practices
  • Customer obsessed – all decisions are made through the lens of what makes things easiest for the Bank's customers
  • Collaboration – Avoiding silos across the Bank
  • Background as a seasoned operations leader, with a depth of experience in the banking industry
  • A strong track record of change management and continuous improvement
  • The gravitas to operate at the Executive Team level of a digital Bank and be a credible presence when interacting with a demanding, high calibre Board.
  • A view of how modern technologies can be cost-effectively deployed in an operations department
  • The ability to work hands-on, combining in-depth subject matter expertise to inspire, educate and mentor individual contributors, and build solid cross-functional working relationships
  • Excellent project management skills - critical given the requirement to prioritise different workstreams and manage remote workers
  • The emotional intelligence and versatility to work with different business stakeholders
  • Understanding of SAMA and KSA regulatory landscape a bonus
