Job Purpose

The Specialist Equipment Foreman is responsible for supervising the operation, maintenance, and repair of specialized construction equipment on site. This role involves coordinating with operators, ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance protocols, and optimizing the performance and utilization of heavy machinery and specialized equipment. The Foreman plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe execution of construction projects.

Job Responsibilities

Supervision and Coordination:

Oversee the daily operations of specialized equipment, ensuring they are used efficiently and safely. Coordinate with equipment operators and other construction personnel to ensure timely and effective project execution. Assign tasks and monitor the progress of equipment-related activities on site.

Maintenance and Repairs:

Schedule and supervise regular maintenance and repairs of specialized equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Coordinate with maintenance teams and external service providers for complex repairs and servicing. Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and equipment performance.

Safety Compliance:

Ensure all equipment operations comply with safety regulations and company policies. Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments for equipment usage. Promote a culture of safety, providing training and guidance to operators on safe equipment operation practices.

Equipment Optimization:

Monitor and analyze equipment performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency. Ensure the correct and optimal use of equipment according to project requirements and specifications. Develop and implement strategies to reduce equipment-related costs and improve productivity.

Inventory and Resource Management:

Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables required for equipment maintenance and repairs. Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure the timely availability of necessary resources. Maintain accurate inventory records and monitor stock levels.

Reporting and Documentation:

Prepare and submit regular reports on equipment status, maintenance activities, and operational performance. Document all equipment-related activities, including inspections, repairs, and incident reports. Communicate effectively with site management, project teams, and external stakeholders regarding equipment issues and requirements.

Team Leadership:

Lead and mentor a team of equipment operators and maintenance personnel, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members. Conduct performance evaluations and address any personnel issues promptly.

Job Requirements:

Qualification and Experience :

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in heavy equipment operation or maintenance is preferred. Proven experience in managing and operating specialized construction equipment, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role. Strong knowledge of heavy machinery, maintenance protocols, and safety regulations. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in using computer software for reporting, documentation, and inventory management. Valid driver's license and any necessary certifications for operating specialized equipment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Working Conditions:

The role involves working on construction sites, which may include exposure to loud noise, dust, and other environmental factors. Regular travel to and from the construction site may be required.
