**Responsibilities**

**Purpose of the Post**

To lead and develop an active and high-profile Music department, ensuring the highest standards of teaching from KS1 to KS4, and potentially KS5.To instil a passion for music and to strive for maximum participation in musical activities. In addition, to carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Principal.

**Responsibilities**
- Take part in the co-curricular life of the school, including leading music clubs, choirs, musical productions and concerts.
- Contribute to other areas of the curriculum as and when necessary.
- Be a part of a duty team and undertake the responsibilities desired, commensurate to current workload and cross-curricular activities.
- Provide cover for the lessons of other teachers as and when required.

**Teaching**
- Undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties of a teacher at BHR.
- Model excellence in the learning and teaching of Music, tailoring plans and delivery to meet the individual needs of every student.
- Ensure that all pupils are appropriately challenged, make strong progress and are enthused and inspired by their Music lessons.
- Plan and provide a stimulating, invigorating and motivating learning environment, ensuring that learning resources are well organised and accessible to staff and pupils, as well as embracing pupils’ work on paper, display and in the general atmosphere created in the classroom.
- Contribute to the development of schemes of work, assessments, resources and displays.
- Keep up to date with marking, assessments and data entry.
- To keep an accurate teaching record for the purposes of tracking pupils’ attainment and progress in Music.

**Additional duties**
- Play a full part in the life of the School community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example.
- Continue personal and professional development as agreed.
- Actively engage in the performance review process.
- Undertake any other duty as reasonably requested by the Principal.
- Comply with the School’s Health and Safety Policy and undertake Risk Assessments as appropriate. To be aware of and work in accordance with the school’s child protection policies and procedures, and to raise any concerns relating to such procedures which may be noted during the course of duty.

**Qualifications, Skills and Experience**
- A relevant Bachelor’s Degree or Teaching Qualification
- A minimum of two years relevant teaching experience;
- Excellent working knowledge of the IPC, American/ IB Curriculum is an advantage;
- A proven track record of effective teaching;
- A strong academic background, stature and experience that will command the respect of pupils, parents, colleagues and the wider community
- A commitment to academic progress and the welfare and safeguarding of students;
- Knowledge and understanding of recent educational developments and best practice;
