**JOB DESCRIPTION**

KAPSARC seeks a director to lead and contribute to the empirical work and policy analysis of its Utilities and Renewables Program. This work will focus on economically efficient policy instruments for incentivizing transitions toward sustainable power generation mixes including nuclear, renewables and fossil fuels. While the Program also conducts global analysis, the Saudi power sector receives considerable attention.

He/she will be a member of the Knowledge and Analysis Leadership Team and will contribute to setting a tone of collegiality, intellectual risk-taking, and institutional collaboration.

KAPSARC seeks a director to lead and contribute to the empirical work and policy analysis of its Utilities and Renewables Program. This work will focus on economically efficient policy instruments for incentivizing transitions toward sustainable power generation mixes including nuclear, renewables and fossil fuels. While the Program also conducts global analysis, the Saudi power sector receives considerable attention.

He/she will be a member of the Knowledge and Analysis Leadership Team and will contribute to setting a tone of collegiality, intellectual risk-taking, and institutional collaboration.

**Responsibilities**:

- Define strategic research directions for the Utilities and Renewables Program
- Propose and design research projects for the Program
- Identify relevant research questions and appropriate methodologies
- Provide thought leadership, guidance, and supervision to ensure that projects result in quality, actionable policy options
- Manage and develop a team of around 10 experts
- Ensure the impactful dissemination of the Program’s research insights through the relevant channels, including journal publications
- Produce impactful evidence-based policy papers
- Deliver presentations at conferences and workshops
- Monitor the Program’s budget
- Maximize the team’s output and allocate resources to fulfill research and advisory targets

**Competencie**:

- Thorough knowledge of the electricity sector, international coverage highly appreciated
- Solid quantitative and qualitative research skills
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Ability to develop and mentor junior staff
- Ability to draft analytical and evidence-based policy-relevant papers
- Ability to address technical and non-technical audiences
- Excellent communication skills and an enthusiastic team player.

**Qualifications**:

- A Ph.D. in economics, operations research, engineering, public policy, or a related field. Alternatively, a master’s degree with sufficient research experience.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience working on economic and policy analysis of the electricity sector.
- A track record of publications in topics relevant to the Program.
- Experience in team management.
- Excellent command of the English language.
